    entering marks in SAM

i think if you are doing 4u, you enter them both out of 100, yet if you are only doing 3units then enter 2u out of 100 and 3u out of 50. well that is how it should be done, but i'm not exactly sure how sam does it. jsut try it and see. if one seems obviously wrong them try the other one.

    hsc scaled mark?

scaled marks are generally lower than aligned hsc marks (except if you get say 98 in chem or 90 in ext2 maths). so yes technically they all scale down, but guess what the UAI is a rank, so if everything scales down it doesn't matter. This is why its useless to look at the raw marks things scale...

    studying past papers

well if your like me and never did any of the questions from the text book, then doing past paper quesions is needed. i did almost all the cssa and hsc ones back to 1986. and i did all the recent ind ones.

    studying past papers

It depends why you are doing the past papers. If you are doing them to get an idea how you would go if you sat the exam today then doing them under exam conditions is probably the only way to do it. However if (like me) you are doing past papers to learn and to get better so that when you do...

Can someone please explain 'ranking' to me.

I think this is wrong. It may just happen as a coincidence but in general it won't. From what I have read that align the max mark and mean. (but i'm a bit confused because they also said where possible they align the min mark, but you can't do all these three things at once!)

    studying past papers

differnt people prefer different methods of study. find what is effective for you and do it. what may be effective for one may not be effective for another. i disagree. i found doing them in a relaxed environment taking as much time as i wanted best. the reason i did them was to learn the...

Added rankings to UAI for poorer performing schools

i think it is possible. and it is certain if everyone who did the SC applies for a UAI.

    studying past papers

given the fact that it seems many trial papers and even hsc papers just keep asking the same things all the time i think it is really good to do past papers. although i do think that you need to do more than just past papers.

    School Ranking/Class Ranking

The rank of your school is IRRELEVANT in calculating your hsc marks or uai. becides its it impossible to as these so called ranks are calculated by the media after the official people decide your hsc marks and uai.
  14. me121

Added rankings to UAI for poorer performing schools

this is completely false. they cannot "boost" your uai. its a rank. some people have to get 0, and some have to get 100. if they boost yours then they are effectively pushing others down.

    please help!!

it all depends on how bad you think you will go in 4u. remember that if you do 4u you get an extra unit of maths.. which means if you do okay at it it will contribute more.. so instead of 40+40+40, you can get 40+40+40+40. then again.. if you are really stugling at 4u, and you think you...

    UAI question regarding 4u maths

they would count half of your 4u. i.e. 1 unit of the 2 units it makes up. (i.e. say you got 80 they would count 40 to your aggregate rather than 80)

[ Which one do you prefer working with ] Pi or e

    can't i like both? eiπ + 1 = 0

    Question on exponential intergration

no. the method that they probably expect (and is probably correct, and is what i did when i was doing the hsc) would be to use Pi*int(x^2) dy (or y^2 depending on which axis), but use simpsons rule to evaluate the integral. the above method is what you should do. i was going to far in...

    Question on exponential intergration

the method tommykins suggested is proably what they expect.. but an alternate method (which would give different results) would be to take an even grid of points under the surface and fit paraboloids to each 2D section.. then sum these up.. but to int ln(y).. we can just integrate exponential...

Can someone please explain 'ranking' to me.

oh yeah i forgot about that. in the current maths syllabus, the school MAY CHOOSE to include year 11 marks in your internal assessment mark for the HSC, for ext 1 maths ONLY. but if they do this they can only hold the assessments after your other hsc subject assessments has started. very rare.
