what i want to know is who in Australia decides who gets to go? and how come our teachers never tell us about this?

the board will let you do whatever subjects you meet the criteria for, and so long as your have done it with some kind of accredited thing. (e.g. a school, private tutor, etc), but your school on the other hand may not offer it to you. as far as i'm aware, they can't stop you from doing it...

alright that makes sense, but the fact still stands that the DET or its schools and teachers do not go to any measures to tell students about it, and how they can get involved.

don't worry. standard english is perfectly fine, and i don't think an employer will care (well i guess it depends how long after you did you HSC you go for the job, and if its english related), when i got my last job, they didn't even look at what subjects i did. yes yes.. quite true.

yes, but remember to compare it to everything else. because remember the UAI is a RANK, so if everything scales down lots, then everyone is in the same boat, and the UAI rank is unaffected. So you should compare this to other subjects like Mathematics, or Standard English, or to any other...

The thing you have to remember, fightthesystem, is that what your school may give your for your exam is no way a likely indication of your HSC marks. However if you think that you will be getting mid band 2 to low band 3, then you can probably expect that kind of UAI.

Well they have a lot of the content there, and I think the topics they teach are good, but I do think the history and social studies parts should be scraped, and they should put more maths in. note: all those articles are from the same uni, same person (not several people or uni's)
