Depends on the job but IMO it says you're able to balance work/studies, can handle responsibility/commitments, etc... and then depending on the job you did, you may be able to demonstrate other traits/skills whether it be customer service, coaching staff, managing aspects of a process, conflict...

Key thing (in a scholarship/cadetship context) is that ECs give you braoder experiences than what you'd get in pure studies whether it be how to deal with conflict, how to handle stakeholders, how to inspire/lead, etc...

I think it depends which scholarship/cadetship... at least in the ones I've been involved with, I'd look for ECs or well roundedness beyond academics.

I personally found group coaching to be useful at younger years as it also allows you to socialise, make a study group/share notes, etc... but towards HSC when you need that one on one tutoring to help ensure you are getting stuff done right, and don't feel any pressure to impress peers/etc...
