In my limited experience (i.e. doing the cores and having a perusal of the second year subject content), economics at university level is very quantitative compared to high school. That is, there's alot of formulas/numbers/etc.

I feel pure Economics is much more specialised/niche nowadays and isn't as universally appreciated across industries. That being said, in some specific roles within banking, econonics/finance would do very well and be much more highly regarded than the common combination of accounting/finance...
