    Syllabus Notes

Yeah, sorry I probably shouldn't have put a number on it. I actally have no clue how many, but a LOT of questions are almost exact quotes from the syllabus, but on the other hand, there are a lot that are not direct quotes (these include calculations and more likely short answer than long...

English is a waste of life.

Well, from my personal experience, the best teachers at doing this are the ones that have been teaching for ages with heaps of experience, and those teacher's who have actually worked in the industry they are teaching. Unfortunately you have to be very lucky to get a teacher like this, but...

English is a waste of life.

Perhaps then the school (particularly the teachers) should show students more applications of where the things they are learning in class are applicable in their future and current lives. A good and eager student should automatically see this and hence want to learn it, and go out of their way...

    Single sex schools vs coed

I totally agree. In the real world men and women interact. In the workplace, in society and in life. Some of my most hated days of high school were in year 8 when we had single sex classes for Wood, Metal (boys made things out of metal that would be classes as malicious weapons), Sewing (boys...

combining exam and assessment mark together for hsc

A good teacher will not just look at what your ranked but more importantly your marks in exams and their judgement from your exam responses/assessments and their HSC marking experience (if they have any).

    Syllabus Notes

yeh, and 65% of the time, the questions are direct quotes from syllabus dot points.

    Syllabus

Learning beyond the syllabus is good. It shows you are really interested in a subject and willing to go beyond what you need to know. So I would encourage it. Sometimes even though it may be beyond the syllabus, learning it may help you understand parts of the current syllabus. Yes, some exam...

combining exam and assessment mark together for hsc

well, to not confuse anyone and to use the Boards terminology, external marks are aligned to standards, not scaled. (aligned exam mark + moderated internal assessment mark)/2 = HSC mark

Dot point 2.4 in quanta to quarks

from my notes/biki: Because these orbiting electrons can be thought of as waves, where the shell number relates to the number of waves, if you have non integer number of waves then the wave will not join and will collapse. So electrons can only exist where a whole number of waves is possible...

    Single sex schools vs coed

i went to a co-ed school. and despite having never attended a single-sex school, i think co-ed is better. students will learn academically either way, in my opinion. none is better than the other. but for the social aspects, i think co-ed is better.

    I need UAI 98-99...

well, i don't know about your teachers. but all my teachers were quite happy to give me, and others who asked a rough HSC mark estimate. (well.. they actually were more like "probably somewhere between band 5 and 6", etc.). of course.. they gave us the usual ladada about that not being definite...

    Changes to Science Education

lol. i have now crossed of teaching as a possible career. its very hard to find out info about it, and from my research so far, too much essay writing, subjects about how the kids will "feel". not saying that this doesn't have value, but its not what i would want to do. and 2 years, on top of a...

How hard is getting a 90+ UAI ??

if your coming 1st then best to stay where you are, because if you come first in school assessment, your internal assessment mark is the highest mark that anyone in your school gets in the HSC exam, which more often or not is your mark. So i think you should stay where you are. But keep working...

    9 Units

like Rebekkie said, they chop the 2 unit marks into 2 lots of marks out of 50, and add up the best 10 of these.

English is a waste of life.

I used to hate english.. but then i got a new english teacher and he taught us to appreciate it. you will never see its value if you don't understand it.

    I need UAI 98-99...

It doesn't matter what ranks you have or what your school was ranked last year. Because quality of candidature at your school most probably changes. Best to ask your teacher what band you will probably get, and from there use SAM.

How hard is getting a 90+ UAI ??

there is only a certain amount of people that can get each UAI, some people have to get 50-60, 60-70, etc.. just try your best. if your course only needs 70 and your not one of the ones right at the top of your class, then pick a reasonable target and work towards reasonable goals. I think...

    Rounding up on Assessments/Tests.

yes a raw exam mark of 100/100 equates to an aligned exam mark of 100/100. although, you could get a raw exam mark lower than 100 and still get and aligned exam mark of 100. how much lower depends on how they choose to align your course and on how many decimal places they use.
