    the upcoming break

I remember I did work right up until around 15th December, then took a break until around 5th or 10th January, then starting working hard again at it. I think I took a one week break before term started and then I was right into gear afterwards from that. Also, timetabling things to do on...

I'm applying for a job at HYPE! Quick Q pls

Well with me, I regard feet a very important part of my body, and I try my best to have them taken care of so I can use them for my day to day activities and work. I do have this slight interest for shoes, but rather than aesthetically pleasing shoes, I opt for the most practical and suitable...

How do I study at uni?

I attempt to do all tutorial questions, some textbook questions, textbook readings and practice from the get go, but then I end up getting lost in extra curriculars and that may go behind a bit and hence I end up with knowing the main basics behind the content throughout, but find it difficult...

Do people that get 98/99 atars do just as well in uni?

It does depend to a certain extent on how well you perform however there is a big gap in experience level there. Also in Engineering there are much more industry based extra-curriculars which involve experience. Being an exec of a society is a completely different thing in my opinion to someone...

    Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering?

Set a goal for yourself to aim for, but also keep other options in mind. You are still quite young and I would say you have quite a lot of time to make up your mind. Keep your options open. Also, you might want to put a bit more focus on your studies to excel a bit more before getting into uni...

Completed a second year course in first year?

That's why hopefully for the OP's case they get the choice of picking an extra SOLA elective in later years. Not sure though. On a slightly related note, its kinda like the gen ed list too.

Completed a second year course in first year?

Call the school tomorrow. I suspect they will let you do another SOLA or possibly any other engineering elective later on but confirm with the school. I never got to do first year electives at all in my program as I did a second year course last sem :p

    Laptop Cooling

Not really the best option but: Do you have a massive metal plate (should be thick) lying around? If so, you could use it as a heat sink for an hour or so. Then you could combine that with a fan too. But yeah as I said, there are better options out there, but temporarily this may work fine...

    New Liverpool Test Route?

Cars parked in the RMS lot in the zone that says "only for driving test". You could follow a car out of there and follow them the whole test.

    2014 COMP finals thread.

C is quite different to Java though. I heard pretty much for 1927 assignment you guys had to make your own version of malloc for C. That's pretty intense (though have to admit it seems interesting at first).

Do people that get 98/99 atars do just as well in uni?

This has happened in first year with my mates and I. Me: mid 90's ATAR, a lot of extra-curriculars, DN WAM. Mates: high 90's ATAR, little to moderate extra-curriculars, HD WAM. One has zero extra curriculars but 90+ WAM and likely 8 HDs. However there are cases where students with high ATAR's...

kind of urgent- heat of combustion calculation

Just in case you were wondering: That was the error. But yeah I got 36.1 kJ as well but using a shorter method. Instead I took the heat of combustion (in units J/kg) released by the ethanol and then found the total energy released when 1.50 g of ethanol is used. Saves the time of having to...

Can Internal Mark be higher than External Mark?

It has an effect on everyone in your class theoretically. The total marks your whole class obtains will be used to calculate your moderated assessment mark respective to your rank in class and the difference between ranks. Hence if you get a lower examination mark, in total there is less marks...

    Standard English Scaling

A high Band 5 in Standard is not an easy mark to get. You need to be somewhere in the top 3% of the Standard cohort for that. Also for your ATAR, if you got the same mark in Advanced it would have pulled you down too.

    Is year 10 IMPORTANTNTNTNTNNT?

Marks in years prior to HSC have no effect on your marks in year 12. The thing you need to worry about is obtaining a good work ethic and having the opportunity to do the levels of subjects that you want (for example, if you want to do extension subjects then you need to get yourself in a...

    Standard English Scaling

Standard English scales close to Advanced English. However the aligning for Standard English is horrible: Nah state rank is moreso around 94+ In general a very small proportion of the state will even receive a Band 6 in Standard English. Its something like less than 0.5% of the students in...
