Maxima and Minima problems - help please :)

    $1. Let the circumference of the circle be x and the perimeter, P, of the square be 10 - x$ \therefore 2\pi r = x ~ , ~ P = 10 - x r = \frac{x}{2\pi} ~ , ~ s = \frac{10 - x}{4} ~ $where s is the side length of the square$ \therefore A_c = \pi \times (\frac{x}{2\pi})^2 ~ , ~ A_s = \frac{(10 -...

    integration help needed :)

For the first one, apply double angle formula to the top so sin2x=2sinxcosx. Then use the substitution let u = sinx For the second one, write it as cosx/sinx and notice the numerator is the derivative of the denominator.

    Superannuation Q

Timske, the question says that the $5000 is invested at the end of each year. So after 10 years (at the end of the 10th year), the school would have invested $5000 but this wouldn't gain any interest. Demento1, that's a nicer way to write it when explaining it but i thought the OP would...

    Superannuation Q

    You included another years worth of investment. It's best to set out your working like below so you don't make any mistakes (don't remember formulae!) $Let P be the total investment at the end of each year$ P_1 = 5000 P_2 = 5000(1.06) + 5000 P_3 = (5000(1.06) + 5000)(1.06) + 5000 =...

A bit of trouble on SHM

6 hours 15 minutes for the tide to move from low to high. 6 hours 15 minutes for the tide to move back from high to low. 1 period = 6hrs 15 mins times 2 = 12 hrs 30 mins or 12.5 hrs.

Trouble with Locus questions in Conics

    Use sin^2\theta + cos^2\theta = 1, cosec^2\theta - cot^2\theta = 1 and sec^2\theta - tan^2\theta = 1 extensively.
