I did case study and balance of payments- were nice questions.

You can but tbh I'd be careful- it can interrupt the flow of your argument if you have a few abbreviations going on at a time and the marker needs to stop and think what you are referring to

There's no set limit- don't waffle and answer the question and you'll be fine. Generally around 3/4 of a page is a good length but it all depends on the question and your response to it etc.
