    my desklamp melted my laptop!

I really don't think light from a desk lamp is strong enough to melt a laptop...it could be something else, or the laptop itself?

    Removable Harddrive!

If you're talking about USB/Firewire type, and if you're up for it, its usually much cheaper to buy your own USB/Firewire case and a hard disk than to buy a retail packaged one :) Otherwise, you can't really go wrong with bigger and reputable brands like Seagate. Type and size will be choices...

    virtual memory

Your computer has a limited amount of RAM...most of the time its not enough. What Windows will do is use some of your hard disk space as RAM, this is virtual memory. Since RAM is much much faster than your hard disk/virtual memory, Windows tries to keep whatever is being used at the time in...

    programming tutoring?

VB6 and down don't enforce good programming practices when you compare it to more structured languages like C and Java, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have any real world applications. I've worked more than once where a client specifically requested something be written in VB. With the amount...

    2007 co-op

I have heard from other actuaries that they do look at marks more closely than other coops, but obviously, if they're just marks and nothing else they'll flop in the interview. Generally speaking, like any other paper and interview application, your application is just a piece of paper and you...

    extreme riding

I've been wanting to go offroad for a while now, but a couple of weeks after I got a new bike (Giant Reign 2) I had shoulder surgery and haven't been able to really ride since...

What do I have to do to get a band 6??

Just do as well as you can, scaling will vary year to year depending on your school assessment marks and the quality of your cohort, so don't rely on it.

    Laptops

Depending on the exact model, T43s are about $2.5k up. If you're confused, each series (eg, T43) have different models, all of which have different specs. I think those two models they have on clearance were previously unreleased because they don't seem to be publicly available anywhere else...

    Laptops

Lenovo are having a special on T43s right now :) http://www-604.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PromotionDisplay?storeId=10000036&catalogId=-36&langId=36&promoName=clearance&re=home_A_au My friend just ordered the $1.8k version.

    Laptops

The best built machines I've used are IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads. You pay through the roof for them, none of the machines they sell are below your price range, but I picked up a brand new T43 for $1200 (RRP ~$3000) on eBay couple of weeks back.

    OMFG i won a notebook

I see nothing wrong with it. Winning any piece of equipment worth two or three grand is a good reason to be happy and to let other people know. Chances are later in life, you'll end up working for one. Perhaps everyone on this forum should start conforming to what you declare normal? When...

external hard drive is deleting itself

Sounds abit weird - but then I've seen USB drives wiped clean because they weren't plugged/unplugged properly. Though if the files were deleted theres a good chance they're still there and could be recovered.. Just don't write to the drive and run a file recovery program...

    Part time, number of subjects

Part/Full time is determined by the number of units you do. >=18uoc per session will make you full time for that session. So if you pick four 3uoc subjects you would still be part time. I've been back and forth between part/full time - you just enrol yourself for what you need to and keep it...

    B.Com (Information systems)

INFS subjects are not technical at all - they are all taught at a very high level, so theres very little technical detail at all.
