    Thanks guys. I knew I was going to be an outlier in terms of the marks when I walked out of the exam room to see people so angry they smashed their liquid papers on the floor with all their strength.

    I actually got D for part 5. Say all the resistors have a resistance R, since they're identical. In the first circuit, R_T=R+R=2R. So the total current through the resistors is I_1=12/(2R)=6/R. So the current flowing through both resistors is 6/R. In the second circuit, 1/(R_T)=1/R + 1/R=2/R so...

    PQ is tangent to x^2=2ay so solve simultaneously x^2=2ay and y=(1/2)[p+q]x-apq to form a quadratic equation and set the discriminant of the quadratic equal to 0.

    yeah my teacher uses this technique all the time. I personally don't like because it's very mechanical. You don't really know what your doing either..
