Hmm i have no idea as sometimes i spend hours just browsing bos. He doesn't have many posts, so should be easy to find. Look in usyd section for the scholarships thread. It was basically "Im smart, do extra curicular, so give me the scholarship." Imo it seemed a little ot, however it worked!
Well the guy at USyd yesterday said to drop any acts of humility and to basically show off...without sounding arrogant of course, which I guess is reasonable enough.

Edit: I did a search for "ijester"...no results came up.

Ah well, thanks. Happen to know what UAI you'd need for Malcom Chaikin? *please don't say 99.95+*

Yea, the no double degree thing is annoying. But it's because if you do Co-Op, then industrial training tacks a year onto your degree anyway, so...

As for co-op and malcolm chaikin, what they are looking for (possibly above all else) is a passionate interest in commerce, as is to be expected. Pretty much everything - your personal qualities, achievements and whatnot- are secondary to a consideration of how committed you are to the field. I was caught out by the co-op application because of this - i wanted to do either actuary or med and the second much more so - actuary was a back-up in some ways. One of the questions on the co-op application was regarding uac preferences and so I basically stated that medicine was my highest preference - I couldn't see a way around that fact. It is most probably that which played a part in me not getting an interview. Moral: Apply for co-op only if you have a burning desire to do a commerce degree and you can back that up, or apply if you are willing to lie in the other instance. :p

Well, if that's the case then maybe I have a chance at the co-op scholarship...I've decided that commerce is my field of interest, although deciding what to combine it with is difficult, unless of course I get the scholarship - I like Psych and I enjoyed the lecture at USyd yesterday, I like maths and chemistry which points in the direction of either Science or Engineering, but the field of work I eventually want to enter after uni most likely requires a Law background  - at least I'll be able to do some interesting subjects for General Ed.

Just like to note that, aside from the obvious (that co-op covers more than just commerce), there's actually 3 Malcolm Chaikin scholarships: 1 for commerce, 1 for engineering, 1 for science. Each worth $15K p.a., each going for 4 years.

Good to know passion is considered.

Yep, good point. I went for the commerce science one instead of the straight science one. This, in hindsight, proved a little costly, but I always wanted to combine science with guaranteed medicine anyway.

No, it's not like one activity will get it for you. I'm sure it has to be consistent ECA.

Just do well in the interview. Kill that, get the UAI, and you've got it.

Meh, just little things, peer-tutoring, leadership crap..general things. Also, just say you participated in some sort of social/religious organisation. Seriously though, they ask you nothing about this sort of thing in the actual interview. For me anyway. The interview was more orientated towards what you wan't to do in the industry, why you're interested in the industry, and a couple of ethical questions (eg. What would you do with a worker who is not working to his/her full capacity).

I wonder if they ask different questions for different courses...it'd be great if they didn't ask questions about community participation, coz then I'd be able to bs all I like :D
