Is there anyone who managed to get a scholarship without having done a whole stack of work in the community? I'm just curious as to how "involved" you really have to be in order to be considered for a scholarship. Personally, I've played tennis and cricket for my school and I did a few weeks of community work as well as a few other things outside of school...is that adequate? Are the people they're looking for the ones who have an almost inexhaustive list of activities they've participated in outside of school, or can you get by with moderate achievements?

Depends.. and there exist ppl who get big scholarships without minimal involvement. but ofcourse, more the better, (economics lecturer adds: holding everything else constant)

Depends on the scholarship. Co-op, for example is more interested in those with involvement rather than those solely with a high UAI. Other scholarships are more interested in academic achievement.

Look around, and apply for everything that you think you have at least a bit of a shot at (regardless of your achievements).

I'll probably end up applying for the co-op scholarship anyway.
I'm more academically focused, although I do get involved in extracurriculur activities but not to the extent as some of the other guys at my school who virtually participate in everything

It is this thing and "Extra Curriculum Activites" that stop me from getting any scholarship at any Uni....... Luckily there is still HECS... I mean HECS-HELP-ME

HECS doesn't pay the $300 a week for accomodation, unfortunately.

That's probably not a good idea...if you go into an interview, you'll be stuffed unless you're extremely good at improvising and making up crap :D

Hmm...interesting: I actually used to do web design as well, up until about Year 11 when school work kind of took over :)
I don't know if my participation in tennis and cricket will be enough...although I've done a bit of charity and community work in the past two or three years: nothing special though. I guess it doesn't help that I was eliminated as a prefect in the final "round" of selection :(

Well, at least if I don't get a scholarship I'm going to participate in as many areas as I can at uni - guilds, events/functions, possibly tennis and maybe the SRC if I feel confident enough :uhhuh:

lol...you didn't even need the co-op scholarship - 99.95 was enough for a full scholarship into USyd anyway...hehe.

Btw. what made you choose UNSW over a full scholarship @ USyd...I imagine that it's a difficult decision that confronts quite a few students.

It becomes even harder at uni to balance study and ec activities.
