I'm pretty sure you'll find Whitlam was from the Right. Last from the Left, at a national level, was John Curtin. Who was quite the abomination, you know.

On a state level, Anna Bligh's from the Left.
From the right? Gough Whitlam? I beg to differ. Gough Whitlam was as far away from the right as you could be.

As for John Curtin, may I ask how exactly he was an abomination? If it wasn't for him and his actions, who knows what Japan could have done in WWII? What exactly has he done that makes him deserve the title 'abomination'

Pfft better than Howard? where was you before 2007?

p.s did you get a free laptop from Rudd yet?
Sorry I didn't reply to this till now, didn't see it. I was here before 2007 and all I saw Howard do was:

- make Australia into a terrorist target by being too friendly with America
- completely ignore two of the largest economies in the world (other than America); that is, China and India. He only visited India in one of his final years in office! A proper Prime Minister would establish great relations between Australia and all relevant countries - ESPECIALLY COUNTRIES LIKE CHINA AND INDIA WHO ARE MORE RELEVANT TO US THAN USA. Damn racist asshole.
- ignoring the Indigenous Australians
- not signing the Kyoto Protocol
- causing Australia to be condemned internationally for the above point and for joining the war in Iraq.
- creating the GST despite saying: "There's no way that GST will ever be part of our policy.... Never ever. It's dead. It was killed by the voters in the last election."
- not improving the education system in any way whatsoever. This is certainly shown by:

And no, I haven't gotten the free laptop from Mr. Rudd yet because he's only been in Government for less than a year. Many schools have already gotten some laptops, and more are on the way. Either way, the education system is going to improve, and it wouldn't have under Howard.

While he's not right-wing himself, that was his faction. It's just that the Labor Right has become more conservative since then. Chifley also was from the Right, and he tried to nationalise the banks, which is again not exactly a right-wing agenda. Nevertheless, that was their Labor faction.

As for John Curtin, may I ask how exactly he was an abomination? If it wasn't for him and his actions, who knows what Japan could have done in WWII? What exactly has he done that makes him deserve the title 'abomination'
It was sarcasm on my part - Curtin's almost certainly the greatest Prime Minister Australia ever had. I was just playing on the fact Musk seemed to be thinking the Labor Left is historically the faction of shittiness. I could've made my point far better, sorry.

If anything keeps Labor fucked up, it'll be these two appointments. Who on earth thought it a good idea to give Tripodi MORE power?!

Firstly, he said a laptop for those in senior years (ie. 10-12 I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong), not every school kid. Secondly, the 'Education Revolution' as he likes to call it hasn't been fully implemented yet.

Finally, the policy says that schools will receive up to 1 million dollars for technology which they may spend on laptops, and/or other technological infrastructure. Sure, its not living up to the promise, but its giving the school the chance and the money to give personal laptops to its students. If you don't get laptops at your school, blame the school.

My school owns many laptops and lends them out in an automated library card barcode scan system. Anyone can borrow one at any time, and the system knows who borrowed which laptop. Not as good as one laptop to keep, but really that, as said, wasn't the greatest idea.

I've hard so many people say "I don't like what they stand for" and that they're sickening and all that. Please do tell me, what exactly is it that they stand for that sickens you? Labor stands for Equality, Human Rights, Labour Rights and Democracy (pasted directly from your 'wikipedia' which is no credible source of information for or against either party).

You don't see Liberal party members with the balls to make changes to the economy (many of which were criticized by Liberal, most of which were conveniently kept and taken credit for by them later), changes to which most of our success as a country can be attributed.

So get out of here, Liberal Party scum, unless you're going to actually back up your statements with some sort of evidence or reasoning. I'm open minded to criticism and support for other parties when it is reasoned or backed up, but not witless comments.

"education revolution"
if by revolution he means 'screw around a bit until we return, full-circle, back to where we started" (probably with a budget deficit) then it's on track.
I agree with you there on the slogan part. I didn't quite make it clear, but I think slogan politics is ridiculous. However, the education system is definitely being nationalized, and considering John Howard payed almost no attention whatsoever (except for giving private schools help they shouldn't be getting) to the education system, as a student (and seeing as this is a student forum) I think it makes all the difference.

Probably someone who recognised he was a good, compotent minister, regardless of what you/they might think of his personal life?

Very intelligent response. Either way, your political opinions are your own, just don't make unfounded statements when you don't have anything to back them up with.

Don't worry, she just seems to be one of those individuals who just go around listening to whatever everyone else says without looking at the evidence and deciding for herself. Until she makes some sort of validly reasoned comment, I'm ignoring her from now on.

I think its been generally agreed that the current Labor State government is horrible. The Liberal State government is better, but not by too much. The Labor Federal government (despite it being me who partially brought it into discussion) in my opinion won the election for a reason, but that is out of topic for this thread. If people keep the thread to the relevant topic (Morris Iemma and perhaps State politics) then I'll be happy to agree with you that State Labor sucks (unless the new Premier proves to be better than we expected, which is unlikely).
