whats the episode whats the show what elective is your section 2 what is the theme of your essay

It's the first episode of True Detective for Worlds of Upheaval. Theme for my essay is don't even ask me

I know what I said previously about not changing my text too but I've considered using Cronos 1993 because I am also comfortable with that movie and I think it could be better for establishing threads throughout my texts

What are the main differences for crafting discursives in ext vs adv? Like, do ext ones want explicit reference to the power of literature/literary worlds? Or do they want to see more experimentation?

Literary worlds, and depending on the question, it could be a discursive on writers writing about writing. In my trial exam, our question was basically to discuss how three of the given extracts discuss creating a literary world or smth like that.
Discursives in adv aren't necessarily focused on anything in particular, just whatever the question asks, so they could be about anything (and of course the standards are lower in adv than in ext).

Esp. for a 10 marker what our teacher taught us is that you essentially bring in an essay loaded with literary theory which shows like an understanding of the purpose or value of literary values and you leave gaps in that to link in the unseen texts. Like my 10 mark structure is:

Intro: Thesis --> Text 1/Text 2 illustrate bla bla bla --> Ultimately they (align with question)
Body: Sub-Idea 1 --> Literary Theory --> Analysis --> Text 1 --> Literary Theory --> Analysis --> Text 2/3
Ultimately, Text 1 & 2 (QUESTION) and show how literary worlds (XYZ)

Thanks for the tip! In regards to literary theory, I'm wondering how could we embed it meaningfully in our responses without name dropping them but rather letting them guide our interpretations.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make really specific and in depth analysis with Section One?? I have a couple of different lenses under my toolkit and I think I know them well but I'm just trying to reach for those insights and flesh things out!!!

Apparently I've been told that my analysis is too general, not specific and needs to go more in depth .

Haha yeah I do it, but I swear no one else does, which is so annoying when trying to find exemplar essays! We look at Wordsworth, Tim Winton’s Island Home and a film called The Hunter. I wish I could have done Frankenstein or Metropolis though

I usually just talk about context with mine lmao, although that's still pretty important for the elective. I do Godot so Im not too sure about the connection between Heaney and Metro but would it be mostly connected through the tensions between social and political class? Although that just depends on your related text lol.

I WISH we did Godot cuz my related text is No Exit so it'd be so easy to link and compare in my essay but the political tensions for Metro is a helpful direction that you've pointed out thank you very much

Violence is a type of upheaval!
For my essay I focus on violence and how it impacted the characters publicly & privately (which can change depending on the essay topic of course)
Just make sure you have clear links and it should be fine

Edit your essays until your teacher is happy with them (I know section 1 is unseen, but writing in depth essays at home/school helps in a test), spend less time analysing the techniques and more on actually analysing their effect (cause and effect and its effect and its effect), if that makes sense.
In a test, spend 5-10 mins planning what you’re going to write - really important if you want cohesion! If you can, use all of your knowledge not only from class but also from what you learn simply being curious one day.

Ask your teacher to see if you can find some really good responses to questions to see what they mean by going into more depth.

do u happen to have an example written to this structure?? i have a lot of literary theory for my s2 essay but im struggling to comprehend how to properly analyse random stimuli from s1 in the same way or is it more just a matter of knowing/engaging w theories well enough to write about them??
