The best way to figure this out is to wait for the percentage given for performance band descriptors. Will take a while for them to be released (took a few months last year unfortunately). Last year approximately 9.22% of the cohort got a Band 6 in HSC Physics...

If you wanted to look at it that way then you could say you didn't perform as well as you wanted to. Your cohort did not affect you at all here as you got the highest exam mark and you were ranked first.

You said it yourself here: You were first. First place ranked always gets their moderated assessment mark to be the highest exam mark of their cohort. The highest exam mark in your cohort was 86. As a result this was your moderated assessment mark as well. So your HSC mark was 86.

Wait until you get your exam marks. Completely ahead of time there. As you get older, you have more priority for time matters at UNSW (for example, usually you get to make your timetable a few days earlier then the lower year students, etc).

Well typically you can do fine in first year with only MX1 knowledge. However to get the edge and build your mathematical skillset, it's best to have MX2 knowledge.
