    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Chemistry Marathon ahha yeah I wouldn't expect many schools to have done titrations at this stage.. probably a decent place to be at right now would be just finishing off Le Chatelier's principle and getting into the theory behind acids and bases - in terms of strength...

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Chemistry Marathon ah right.. that's preety good then lol. you can preety much prep yourself to get 100%

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Chemistry Marathon Na2CO3 + 2HCl ---> 2NaCl + H2O + CO2 that's the equation. so yeah your right.. my bad, I wasn't looking at the question properly and only read off the answers. so yeah that's correct. So you haven't even learnt titrations yet? just read ahead, I presume?

Hit me up with an ATAR estimate!

yeah i know right.. f-life. I got jipped out of a precious 99.. lols. oh well, but yeah, everyone from my school got over estimated like .4 or so higher by the atar calcs, so just be weary of that.

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Chemistry Marathon ohh right, no wonder. ah k fair enough.. yeah I wouldn't think that you'd begin monitoring before half yearlies, you'll probs do revision.

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Chemistry Marathon btw - just out of curiosity where is everyone at in the syllabus in HSC chem atm? how far into acidic are you guys? ^ sanjoy you already done esterification at school?? =O

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Chemistry Marathon Yes - generally with titration questions in the HSC they are split up into 2 or 3 parts. So they get you to break down each component of the question. a) find the concentration of the sodium carbonate solution (1 mark) b) find the concentration of the HCl...

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Chemistry Marathon Not neccessarily.. it probably means that they had four flasks of 25mL of HCl and performed 4 titrations. The first being a rough titration to gain an approximate indication of where the eq. point is and next 3 being more accurate. The would then discard the...

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Chemistry Marathon Have you executed the titration prac yet at school? If not, then it might be difficult to understand. But yeah, in that question - a 250mL solution of sodium carbonate was made with a concentration of 0.05404 M as easily determined in part 1. This solution is...

    ATAR ESTIMATE?

ah okay, from those results - then your probs looking at low 90's. i went to a school ranked 280ish last year, 150ish this year and i needed to be top 3 to get my atar of 98.75, generally to get 95+ you needed to be top 4/5 across everything.. maybe that might be an indication for you.

    ATAR ESTIMATE?

probs looking at high 80's low 90's atm, difficult to estimate. how many students usually get above 90+ atars and what does dux usually receive?

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2012 Chemistry Marathon titration volume in that question refers to the amount of sodium carbonate needed to neutralise/reach the end point the HCl. So thus 22.35mL of sodium carbonate was needed to neutralise 25mL of HCl. Using that knowledge, we can then determine the no. of mols...

Umm, a possible option could be to make a potato puree.. as in like mash the potato up to a thin consistency, then you could measure the amount by using a test tube or something like that. It would also be more effective in terms of the reaction taking place if you mashed the potato up as the...

How to get from Parra. Station to UWS via bus.

hey mate. Go to the newsagency next to the station and order a t-way ten my bus 2 concession - $14. This is useful for up to 10 rides on the bus. Then go upstairs on the side that is OPPOSITE max brenner and nandos and wait at the A2 STAND. You can then catch the M52, or the 520,521,522,523...

how many band 5's can I get?

lol yeah, but who gets 99 in 3 subs =/
  16. D

how many band 5's can I get?

depends what subject that high band 5 is in and also how high your other marks are.. e.g. if you got a 95+ I'd say 2 is the absolute maximum.. if one of those subs were mx1 or mx2.. if not then only 1.
  17. D

Hit me up with an ATAR estimate!

    Adv Eng - probably looking at high b5 - 88ish MX1 - 92 MX2 - 85 Phys - 95 Chem - 93+ with those marks, definitely heading towards a mid 98

be upfront about it and discuss it with him.
