    Asylum seeker debacle

This is mostly true and of course very few traditional aboriginal communities would accept the premise of land ownership, they do however have a fairly well entrenched right to identify as part of this imagined community that we call Australia.

    Asylum seeker debacle

Yes but those countries governments give precious little funding towards elite athletics which just the other day you were saying makes an enormous difference.

    Asylum seeker debacle

If we can push up our population enough we should win more olympic medals though.

Virgin bans men from sitting next to children

Beat me to it, and it's not just sexual assault of children. Aside from armed robbery violent crime in pretty much all it's manifestations normally occurs between close acquaintances not strangers, and yet people want more privacy. It's a strange world.

Virgin bans men from sitting next to children

It's not entirely bad logic, his point is that you are allowing for discrimination of the basis of a statistical correlation rather than any tangible causative link. There is no reason that I can see why you shouldn't ban black's or gays sitting next to children on planes if you're going to say...

So how does the LGBT community and women feel about...

As in any community there are a range of divergent views within the LGBT.

Who should win the next election

Except the Liberal Party always put One Nation last on their preferences, even when One Nation's vote kept growing.

Who should win the next election

How would that have made anything any better? A bit of feel good symbolism.

Who should win the next election

One Nation peaked at around 8 percent nationally and only got more than 5% at a federal election once (1998). The Greens have consistently gotten more than 7% since 2004, the comparison is poor.

Who should win the next election

What great backflip, please all these people telling me Rudd dropped the ball on climate change, what he should have done. A Double Dissolution would not have resulted in senate passage for the CPRS, Labor would have needed to clock something in the realm of 56% according to Antony Green's...

Who should win the next election

I think they are interdependent. I think what you are referring to with the last sentence is the perception of competence which I agree is a huge factor. But I think genuine incompetence/corruption is pretty well unhidable, see Kirstina Kenneally for example who was charming but was positively...

Who should win the next election

False, the Newspoll quarterly for Rudd's last three months in office had Rudd leading 53-47. His last two polls were increasing his lead two. And those were just voting intentions, every other indicator had Rudd dominating Rudd by enormous margins. The Rudd Abbott debate was overwhelmingly...

Who should win the next election

Wasn't that about reconciliation, as opposed to multiculturalism?

Who should win the next election

Many of the reforms you credit to Howard were not achieved in his first two years. The Rudd government brought in the Fair Work Australia Act to replace Workchoices, Removed offshore processing of asylum seekers, detention debt and Temporary Protection Visas, removed 58 pieces of discriminatory...

Who should win the next election

Pretty sure the most recent western election was a socialist party.
  16. Lentern

Who should win the next election

No they don't because it is a fiction that never actually happened. The legislative achievements of the Rudd governments first two years were more substantial than that of any government since Whitlam, utterly dwarfing those of the Howard government and this was despite battling the most...

Who should win the next election

It's not about "justice'' it's about not being scene as some puppet for the trade union movement. People who think Labor's problems are about the carbon tax and BER are ignoring that Labor hasn't won more than 40% of the primary vote since 1993 except under Rudd. When Labor won the 2007 election...

Who should win the next election

They do now. Apparently he travelled quite well in Penrith but Blacktown, Liverpool, Fairfield, Parramatta(the city not the whole electorate) Bankstown etc were all strongly Labor for the duration of Howard's tenure. But Penrith doesn't count towards the whole "western Sydney battlers" narrative...
