    History Extension 2008

And for the '05 Jenkins source, it was because most classes stopped at Ranke or Elton, and didn't even touch po-mo.

    History Extension 2008

Markers notes tell us that they don't want an array of historians, but rather, an in-depth discussion and argument. @fallenstar: definitely, lol, after the whole year's prep, I still feel scared :uhoh:

How are you studying for the Hist. Ext. HSC?

Memorising essays, going over more examples for back-ups, deconstructing sources, adapting essay intros, con/c and lines to the q's, and prolly just practise tomorrow.

    Another question

28th June 1919 - 5 years anniversary after the death of Franz Ferdinand, which inevitably triggered the outbreak of WWI. Location: Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. The same location that Bismarck forced the French to sign the treaty and reparations in the Franco-Prussian war in 1871-72. The same...

    History Extension 2008

I hope its not a major focus on how historians go about to use their evidence, or w/e on the lines of methodology. I'm hoping for something about different interpretations, context etc etc

If you want a Marxist historian, use Christopher Hill or Eric Hobsbawm or E.P Thompson.

    History Extension 2008

The Annales school used a total history style- rather than focus on political and military history, we can look at other factors such as sociology, geography, anthropology etc etc. You've historians like Bloch, Braudel, Le Roy etc etc... It only started to flourish in the early 20th century. On...

Lizzy for me. Iunno, would Marx classify as a true 'historian'?

    History Extension 2008

Yup thats what I do, you have to make a judgement on the source and your historians are based on the concepts of the source itself. I'm learning 4 well - Jenkins, Elton, von Ranke and Thucydides, with bare/scant mentions to other historians like Herodotus, Marc Bloch, Carr, Hobsbawn, White etc etc.

    12 units including MX2?

13 units with MX2. Load was strenous at times, but worth it in the end.

Study guides - are they really THAT helpful?

short answer: no. I'd only use them to get a general outline over the topics or if I'm in need of a cramfest a couple hours before an assessment task.

    History Extension 2008

Our teacher told us its paramount... it should form the conceptual framework of your argument. Each paragraph deals with a theme or issue of the source, and a certain historian(s) are used to back it up. I wouldn't mind a po-mo source :D

3 hours a night is not enough!

Maths - Practice Questions. Just get your head around the concepts, do a few hw questions and then hit the past papers. Science- You can make your own notes, or use someone else's. Again, hit the past papers asap. English/Humanities- imo, making notes is just a waste of time. Should just be...

What do I eat before an exam?

    Usefulness and Reliability

Re: The Reliability Of Sources; How To Determine Reliability/Usefulness? Yeah, primary sources usually have a narrower perspective, but on the other hand, secondary sources have the benefit of hindsight, and with that (in the case of memoirs), it may be used to avoid...

    Usefulness and Reliability

Re: The Reliability Of Sources; How To Determine Reliability/Usefulness? All sources are unreliable, others more to an extent. Ultimately, decreased reliability means decreased usefulness, as the 'complete' picture isn't shown. Thats why caution and corroboration with other historical sources...
