    Transitioning from industries

No disrespect intended here to those who do make a career out of those roles you mentioned (check out chick/shelf stacker) but for the most part, it's not the technical competencies which you'll leverage but rather, the behaviours and softer skills which are valuable whether it be customer...

Tips from a Band 6 Information Processes and Technology student

Without trying to repeat everything which Katsumi said, this subject was definitely all about consistency even when I did the HSC over a decade ago. For what it's worth, the content and syllabus was surprisingly ahead of it's time - no, I'm not referring to the 80's IT terminology/definitions...

Reason for James Ruse 1st in State and why is it not happening in other states?

Couldn't help but bump this out of context quote. :)

    Laptop Cooling Pads

Ended up buying a Cooler Master Ergostand Lite. Offers the height advantage as well as cooling. Only issue with this is I bought a Logitech G710+ keyboard and the cable is so thick it can't fit under the stand at the front.

    buying a new laptop

It seems to be getting rave reviews in the US and Asia but I suspect the external gpu "CORE" is going to be ridiculously expensive and impractical. But an i7 with Intel 520 is more than sufficient for CSGO/Simcity/etc (at least the games I play because they run great on my i5 with Intel 520) so...

    buying a new laptop

If you don't like the portability/form factor of SP4 then no point paying the premium for it. Maybe just settle for a decent normal laptop which may not be so light. I was thinking something like the Razer ultrabook might be suitable at AU$1550 incl GST. It doesn't have discrete graphics card...

    buying a new laptop

Both are good (presume Mac isn't an option as specified in Op) but you aren't going to find a Surface Pro 4 with an i7 for <$2k even with educational discount. $2k however should be able to get you the i5/256gb SP4 model with a Type Cover... but it misses out on most of the other requirements...

    buying a new laptop

None of them are wrong but read to figure out why they rated it high/low. For example if someone says they don't like one laptop because the trackpad is lousy, this may not be an issue to you if you always use a mouse. If someone says it's too heavy, this may not be an issue if you don't intend...

    buying a new laptop

Oh and obviously make sure you try out the keyboard. Not everyone likes every keyboard. I realised I don't enjoy using my Dell Inspiron keyboard but thankfully it's for home use so I bought an Ergostand to lift it up (and provide ventilation) and a good mechanical keyboard.

    Keyboards

Holy smokes, mechanical keyboards really do lead to faster typing results! Second attempt: Visit the Typing Test and try! Third attempt: Visit the Typing Test and try!

Need help buying a good printer

I personally just use an Epson Workforce WF3530 printer. Got it cheap from ARC a while ago with wireless printing and Airprint support (useful for people with iOS devices). No USB cable needed since it's connected onto my wireless network. I chose it because it also had an automatic document...

    Keyboards

Finally decided to try a mechanical keyboard to go with my Cooler Master Ergo laptop stand. Didn't realise how thick the Logitech G710+ keyboard cable would be as I measured to make sure it would fit with palm rest on my shallow desk but alas can't fit palm rest. Need to play some CSGO before...

    Laptop Cooling Pads

It shocks me how many $40+ cooling fans are for sale...

    buying a new laptop

I have to admit that's not a bad choice either and if you can use the form factor, then it's great. I'm surprised at the specs being decent.

    buying a new laptop

I would've thought something like the XPS13 would be perfect for you. Unfortunately whilst it's priced at under $2k in Singapore for the i7 model, that model is $2300 AUD http://www.dell.com/au/p/xps-13-9350-laptop/pd

    Laptop Cooling Pads

Don't have space for one in my condo (did not need to be ultra portable, but just able to put inside drawer when not in use), and not much help since already bought a laptop.

    Laptop Cooling Pads

Does anyone here have one? I realise that; a) my new laptop gets hot easily; and gets noisy too. b) the angle is not that comfortable to type on (same for my work laptop which I'm using right now) c) the laptop keyboard I'm using now also gets a bit warm So all in all, getting a laptop...

Finally bought an inexpensive gaming laptop

Because I can. Although I did read enough articles that anything beyond 8gb is overkill even under extreme circumstances so maybe not. I do like having loads of Chrome tabs open though.

Finally bought an inexpensive gaming laptop

Interestingly it has a 5 year warranty but unsure if it's transferable to overseas should I move back to Sydney. Also waiting for firmware updates/confirmations of RAM support/cheaper RAM before I try and fit 24gb of ram.

    Why should I be?
