    BAcc Scholarship

Strongly suggest you post your questions/comments publicly given you're more likely to get a response. Also the BAcc threads are usually on the standard Commerce forum eg https://community.boredofstudies.org/threads/uts-bachelor-of-accounting-co-op-scholarship.387632/

Tell me about Australian High Schools!

I am pretty sure the curriculum is more different than you think at least based on my anecdotal comparisons with my cousins there particularly for maths and science streams. Whilst we have parallels with A and O levels, there’s a stronger focus on English and creative/arts subjects here and...

    Renting

Do you have decent jobs? Stable income? Cash reserves? etc... The other thing you'll have working against you both is you're young. Take it how you will but the reality is some agents/landlords will see that as a red flag especially when it comes to things like maintenance, not damaging things...

    Visual Arts or Business Studies

I personally enjoyed business studies alot, and if you intend to pursue a career in say Chartered Accounting, much of the core syllabus points which you rote learned will be expanded on significantly in both university and post-graduate qualifications. I think like much of the HSC, you can...

Tell me about Australian High Schools!

Wait, did you go to the Australian international school in Singapore then? Or did you enrol in one of the other privates since presumably you wouldn't have gone to the local schools? Whilst I never studied in Singapore (but I lived there for a couple of years), my understanding is the...

HSC graduates: beware of predatory tutoring businesses

It's always good to hear both sides of the story, but just taking a step back, in any organisation which is so dependent on their employees as the 'assets' of the balance sheet (figuratively), wouldn't it make more sense to both engage with them throughout any significant decisions around...

Should I study economics in university?

I thought many of the Econ first year subs are common to both... but it's been a while since I looked at the course handbook. Either way, both paths have their merits and I posted in the other thread about UTS to UNSW that it's a common path as some of my friends have even done this.

Transferring requirements from UTS Business--->UNSW Commerce

Come to think of it I have a few friends who went from UTS B Business to UNSW B Comm (or B Business now)... seems to be a common path.

    PC builds

I normally have the case up against the table legs on the left. Unfortunately with the glass on the left it means I don’t see inside at all. I’ve also installed a UPS there as well so it totally blocks the side RGB goodness at night :(

Seriously - why the hell is English compulsory?

I think there’s three different things here - English as an area of study vs the syllabus/desired outcomes vs how it is taught and assessed. It’s been a while since I did my HSC but to the credit of the last point, learning to express myself and adapt my views to address a question or respond...

    What Cars does everyone drive??

lol way to bump an old thread from 9 years ago... but it does make me laugh to think how my views on cars have changed since then and now, and what cars I've owned/driven.

Should I study economics in university?

IMO if you can get into Commerce or Business, do that. You only have to do the bare minimum in economics and it's not the heavy quantitative (maths) stuff. You'll get more freedom in majors/minors as well. That being said, you will need to spend some time getting up to speed again on maths even...

    Moderator application form

Best wishes to those who apply. It’s a great experience and I enjoyed my time as a BoS mod back in my younger days!

    Cadetship 2020 thread

As in, I didn't take any large breaks >1 month. You don't realise how good school holidays/uni breaks are until you don't have them anymore. Thinking back, it wasn't until I was about the 9 year mark that I got married and had two weddings and a two week honeymoon (so all up a month). Then...

    Cadetship 2020 thread

AFAIK barely anyone uses it in professional services due to data sensitivity/handling requirements. One of the big 4 firms does use it but for non-client data. Better off learning either your accounting/audit standards or Excel/Alteryx if you really are so free... but like I said, you should...

    Cadetship 2020 thread

Just the right attitude will make all the difference. ps. why google sheets?

    Cadetship 2020 thread

Depends which firm. IMO if you have time before you start, just enjoy yourself and your free time before things actually ramp up. Even getting through training will be a chore since if you're anything like me, it was the first time I had to consistently stay awake and focused for 8 hours. Then...

    Official Cryptocurrency Thread

LOL. I know that was tongue in cheek but I do miss the old days where there was a stronger correlation between effort and reward.

    PC builds

Surprisingly no, I tend to sit a little more to the right to align with the centre of the monitor. It does great for productivity and gaming.
