It's not a public holiday, so standard time and a half I assume?

Just got home, was meant to do 12-9, DM at 5.30pm is like, 'well there is nothing else to do, just "forget" to sign off and I will exception report it tomorrow as your Christmas present'. Suits me!

Went in to get some stuff for tomorrow a couple of hours ago and it wasn't even that busy! I still think they will get $500k for the day though, not a lot on the shelves. Ahh well, tomorrow off then 12-10pm Boxing Day even though we are not open - it's always hectic at this time of year...

Just did 2pm-2am. Had to finish otherwise it exceeds the 11 hrs sans breaks (which is the case in NSW). And our nightfill is nowhere near finishing, they will be there until at least 4am. Our first truck didn't arrive until 9.30pm (load is generally in by 6pm) and we had 60 odd pallets. Never a...

    The Woolworths Thread

Our SM is actually encouraging pretty much all the departments to spend whatever they like (within reason). Haven't heard of any DM worrying about too many hours this week. We didn't get express alerted once today so checkouts must have been very well staffed because its not like it wasn't busy.

    Car Parking 2010

In my first year in 05 it was only around $100-$110 annually from memory. So to double in price in 5 years says they really want to discourage people.

Standard terrible night in nightfill. Our back dock is even worse than it was yesterday. And we got a surprise visit from the area manager at 4pm, the ONLY time all day that the dock was respectably tidy lol. Good timing or what? Happy to be out by 1.15am (started at 3). Oh and we had our staff...

    Car Parking 2010

Supply and demand. I assume they keep increasing the prices well above inflation to deter some people and make them carpool/use public transport.

Perishables managed to get the pallet jack stuck in freezer again yesterday. We spent a good 45 mins trying to get it out. And they still have 4 full pallets of cream in their stockroom and the SM is freaking out lol. Yet another 5000+ load last night. Our dock is pretty much permanently packed...

    Commerce Graduates

Tough question as like you said there are variables to consider. I just finished this semester (but in Comm-Mktg) and am starting a marketing grad position in February. So this is where I envisaged myself at this stage of my career. Basically, I wouldn't use % grad rates as an indicator of...

    The Woolworths Thread

I didn't apply for finance/accounting, but I applied for marketing. I was rejected after the phone interview, which frankly stunned me as I had five years experience at Woolworths and a near distinction average, so in an internal process I assumed I would have a great shot. Long story short...

    Importance of Orientation

I wouldn't say I found it a waste of time but if you don't go you won't be missing out on too much. It's just a pretty generic intro to uni life (note that my orientation was in 05 and it may have changed in structure). My advice would be to go regardless as you have nothing to lose.

    Is that really boring ??

It's only 30 mins away from the city anyway. I have no idea about how boring it would be as I live at home, but life is what you make of it. Make friends with people in a similar situation to you and you should be fine.

Lol if we made only $109k on any day of the year our store would be in ruins. I don't know what an average store makes, but our average is $1.1m/week ish and we are doing $1.3/$1.4m atm. Slightly down on what management expected I think because a new Woolworths opened up about 10 mins down the...

My roster for the week: Monday 5am-3pm (ends building/maintaining as specials stay) Tuesday 2pm-Midnight (grocery/nightfill) Wednesday 2pm-Midnight (back dock/nightfill) Thursday 12pm-10pm (grocery/nightfill) Friday off Saturday 4pm-10pm (nightfill... store closed so should be a breeze) Sunday...

    A question from a potential 2010 student

Well it depends on what a few is. Even at 3-4 off the cut-off, you should be in with a good shot of being accepted. If not, you should be able to enter for comm/law at the end of the first year assuming your GPA is good (2.5+ min). First year commerce is pretty generic, you should be able to get...

Yes. Just finished B Comm (Marketing) and am going into marketing at Coles. Start 1st week of February. I have worked in supermarkets throughout my degree and what can I say, they fascinate me. Wasn't what I wanted to be when I started the degree but I am just going down the paths I have chosen...

Thanks. Good luck in your remaining MQ years. As for honours, I haven't even looked at that. My GPA is 3.25, might get me something. If not, I won't lose any sleep. I still get the most important piece of paper.
