    Trial results and ATAR

Yup, in the same boat as you. Even though I don't have my trial results back yet, I suspect my results won't be that great :/. I have known many people who got average rankings and still got into a course that they wanted. They do take people below the ATAR cut off in many cases and there are...

How 'surprised' are people who top the State?

But surely you would still need to have learned and remembered the content in order to do well. Yes, the solution just seems to 'jump out' for some people more than it does for others. However, I don't believe its possible to see a hard question and, after only having gone through the topic...

    Cramming success stories?

Last term, I had an English extension essay at 8:00 am. Waking up early that morning, I quickly flipped through a booklet the teacher gave us and jotted down themes and quotes that I was going to talk about several times to remember them. I was literally trembling when I walked in because I felt...

Anyone else got there UAC pin?

Yes, just got mine this morning :)

How 'surprised' are people who top the State?

The majority of interviews I read with people who state ranked said how 'surprising' and 'unexpected' this result was. I know if I purposely set out to top the state in something I would probably overwhelm myself before I get there. Therefore, would you say that what they say has any semblance...

Who wants to pull an all nighter with me?

Phew, at first I was annoyed at having my trials weeks 1 and 2, but now I am becoming grateful to have it over and done with :)

    Regrets of Picking Certain Subjects

I regret picking Music 2 How the hell can teachers fairly mark someone's playing on an instrument if they don't play it themselves? Also all this composition crap, a musicology essay that we have 20 minutes to write and friggin melodic dictation and sight singing that we (well at least my class)...

    Memorising essay

+ 1 This is exactly what I meant. Of course you need to memorize SOMETHING (ie quotes, techniques, insights, themes etc) but I have seen many people memorizing essays to the point where they are able to recite it word for word at the drop of a hat, but when it comes time to do exams they...

    Memorising essay

Exactly what other people said, if you memorize an essay, you are doing yourself a disservice. The whole point of English is to engage with a text so that you may draw out themes relevant to the question. It is NOT like many people seem to think, a test of how well you can remember an essay and...

Who wants to pull an all nighter with me?

I am just working on a major work, so even if the claim that you forget everything on the morning is true, it doesn't apply in my case :)

15 weeks till end of hsc - sick of this shit

Yup, I am sick of it too. Even though we were meant to pick subjects we enjoyed, all this pressure is making be enjoy non of mine atm -_-

    Fear Of Study...?

I am going through the same thing, but with only one subject. Enoligam, I believe is most accurate in describing what this is. In my case, I have topped Music every year since year 7, and not by a little, most of the time it was quite a considerable amount of marks. At first it felt great but...

    Plans after last hsc exam?

Loose all this HSC weight, volunteer (probably book sorting for Lifeline) and get a job.

    Musicology essay topics

Mine's very specific. I'm focusing on the 2nd Movement of Beethoven's Symphony no 5 and analyzing the hell out of it in order to prove my thesis, where I claim it displays the general characteristics of the Classical Period.

    Doing hsc over two years?

I know someone who does pathways, and he doesn't seem to like it that much. It's a nice idea in theory but it is something that, unless you've got other serious commitments (eg elite sport), or have health/learning difficulties, I just don't see it being necessary.

Is it wise to do both ancient AND modern AND history extension?

If you feel you are capable of this, then it shouldn't be a problem :) Remember though, the 'secret' (well, its sort of obvious) in doing really well in history is to do extra reading of your own (i.e not specifically as 'study', just for enjoyment) because going beyond the syllabus gives you a...

    Ancient vs Modern

I personally picked Ancient because, as someone who already really likes history and knows a fair bit about it I knew I wouldn't enjoy learning about various wars of the 20th century. While I acknowledge they were significant events that shaped the world we live in today and I respect all those...

His Ext Major Work - 2013

Not sure...maybe begin with looking at historians' insights into the limitations of democracy in Ancient Athens? @kvothe: I divided mine into four main 'eras' of opinion and discussed the schools of thought and contextual influences that changed the opinions of historians (supported by...
