Overhaul/Update of the BOS resource pages

I'm just a mod (I moderate the forums), not an admin of the site and not a business associate. So I don't really know/cannot comment on any of this.

Could someone please clarify my ideas of UAI and scaling??

    47.0, 42.0, 38.0, 36.0, 33.5, 30.0 47.2, 37.5, 28.0, 22.7, 17.2, 12.0 that doesn't really look like a one to one correspondence to me. i'm not exactly sure where that page gets that data from.

Could someone please clarify my ideas of UAI and scaling??

Which is why whenever I talk about how a course scales, i compare it to another course. For example instead of saying a 95 in industrial technology scales to a scaled mark of 60, i say a 95 in industrial technology is equivalent to a 75 in mathematics. however English does not have mild...

Could someone please clarify my ideas of UAI and scaling??

Well it appears we have come to an agreement, because that is what I have being trying to say this whole time, that scaling is RELATIVE.

Could someone please clarify my ideas of UAI and scaling??

Everyone finds out their exam mark, and the Board notifies the school system, and school, for people who do the HSC with a private tutor, i guess the tutor gets it too. However people don't get told Exam Mark->Scaled Mark. They can only get approximations, as UAC only publihsed some points on...

    Explanation of HSC Marks (Moderating)

Your individual SC marks do not affect your UAI or HSC results. Im not exactly sure what they do, but they use the cohorts SC results so that the rank is of all SC students rather than HSC students. e.g. if your UAI is 0 it means that even the people who dropped out of year 10 and didn't do...

Could someone please clarify my ideas of UAI and scaling??

If you do 4U maths, you do not recieve, and cannot recieve a mark for 2u maths. The process that most people would go though is to request these under the FOI act. Thats right, people have obtained raw marks in the past, but it is a lot harder nowdays to get them. Yes, I got my scripts back...

Could someone please clarify my ideas of UAI and scaling??

That is exactly the same as my scaling graphics, except that you plot the distance between the normal line (line joining 0,0 and 50,50) and the point. I disagree that you would get a bell curve. If you think i'm wrong, post the evidence. I highly doubt that your tutor receives his students...

If a question asks for the force in magnitude and Direction

its best if you can post the question, but i can see what you are saying. you have a formula that says F=qE, and it says find the force and the answers evaluate E? But there is the think, we can use E to represent force. They are just pro-numerals.

Could someone please clarify my ideas of UAI and scaling??

hmmm... i'm not quite sure what is meant by that extract, but i think that it help to give an indication of how subjects scale, RELATIVE to each other. It IS a scaling graph, I just didn't base it on real data. It IS how scaling works. Its NOT a bell curve. For example, aligned mark 50.0 48.0...

there you go, you have answered your own question.

    Band 6

aligning is done so that students marks match their performance in accordance with the band descriptors. read this, http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/hsc/hsc_update_2002_03.html and the other articles here http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/hsc/index.html

If a question asks for the force in magnitude and Direction

Yes. F and E are just variables, they can denote anything, so without the whole question we cannot know if you want to find F or E.
  20. me121

    Band 6

No. Its not based on "scaled marks", its based on "aligned marks". The term "scaled marks" refers to a process done by UAC when calculating the UAI, nothing to do with "bands". Raw exam marks, mostly vary A LOT from your aligned mark that is reported to the student. For example, in 2007, 3U...
