USYD or Macquarie? Have an urgent decision to make!

I always find it incredible that people only ever think of Arts and Science degrees as 'general' and that future employment opportunities will be determined by the overall prestige of the uni in which the degree was attained. An Arts/Science degree may be as general or focused as you choose to...

    Do you work and study?

During semester I usually work 3 days (8.30-5.30) in retail and around 5 or more hours a week as a research assistant. I usually have about 3 days a week at Uni so i only have the one day off a week, this semester it's looking like it's gonna be Friday. I would never be able to do this with a...

Potentially stupid question from New uni student

^ MQ students can't enrol in units yet, first years have to attend a designated 'enrolment day', which i believe is later on in February. (Just saying so the OP doesn't freak out when they find they can't enrol).

Scientists urge unis to axe alternative medicine courses

I didn't think that chiropractic was considered pseudoscience...? While i never thought of chiropractors as doctors that practice medicine i did think that they provided a proven, helpful service, like physiotherapy.

    The best thing about university?

Exactly, disgusting and disrespectful behaviour (particularly as the lecturer in this situation quite literally wrote the text book on the topic he was discussing).

    The best thing about university?

I had lecturers throw out noisy/talkative students in several of my first year lectures, was awesome.

    laptop for uni?

I always use pen and paper, lecture notes stick in my brain better when i write them down. That said, i did buy myself a little net book in my second year and it has been SO helpful with assignments... now i don't know what i would do if i couldn't work on them during breaks

    Travelling to Macquarie uni

MQ as a whole is pretty damn close to the station, less than five minutes. Depending on the actual building your heading to it can be anywhere between 5-20 minutes. As a very rough guide (from the station): C blocks: 10 mins E Blocks: Mostly a 5-10 minute walk, but if your in E12 or E14, 15...

Ah i see. Who knows why you're on different days, could be different faculties, could be according to student number etc. It doesn't really matter.

New Students: What to do after receiving your offer

Re: New Students 2012: What to do after receiving your offer Three units a semester is fine, i only do three myself as i don't deal with stress particularly well and don't feel i would be able to maintain my grades with four a semester. That's just me though, four units a semester is perfectly...

For first years, the earlier you attend your 'Compulsory Enrolment and Academic Advice' session, the better chance you have of getting your preferred class times. This is why it's important to have 'back up' times in case your preferred times are full. For the rest of us, it's whoever can log...

New Students: What to do after receiving your offer

Re: New Students 2012: What to do after receiving your offer Most students will take 4 units per semester, but you can do less if you want to. So, you could do say: Sem 1: - COMP115 - ISYS104 - ISYS114 - BBA111 Sem 2: - COMP125 - ACCG106 - COMP247 - COMP249 Note that i included 200 level...

New Students: What to do after receiving your offer

Re: New Students 2012: What to do after receiving your offer ^ Was for a couple of years, don't have time to commit to it now that my degree has picked up pace and i'm working too much. Awesome program though, everyone should do it at least once during their time at uni.

B.Arts/B.Anc students: How is my draft timetable?

I would do Hieroglyphics A and B in semesters 1 and 2 of this year and Coptic I and II in your second year, this way everything will be nice and fresh in your mind. Also, consider taking your language studies further than just A and B/ I and II; It takes longer than two semester to become...

Not at all, that was just general advice that applies to most students (since most first year students by nature cannot meet most pre-requisites). So long as you meet the pre-requisites and it fits within your program of study, you can take the unit.

This really depends on the unit, all of mine study the current weeks lecture topic, not the previous week.
