I feel like they might ask something for s1 on 'public' and 'private' worlds like it's in the rubric and they've never asked something on that before.

also does anyone have an example of a 25 mark critical their teacher gave them? the longest i've had to do is 10 marks so im not rlly sure like how much evidence and stuff is needed for a 25 marker...is it like s2 sorta lengthwise?

My teacher didn't give an examplar but he said structure wise to do 3BPs with 3-4 quotes in each and like 1/2 page intro. He said it'll probably be shorter than section 2 though since its unseen.

for section 2, I'm using a structure where I do intro, three body paragraphs, conclusion, and in each paragraph I talk about all three texts through a central concept. In my trial essay I established the context of all three texts in the intro, but my teacher said it was too long and to put the context into the body paragraphs. Should I still try and briefly mention it the intro? or just completely move it to body paragraphs, but I feel like if I did that then my body paragraphs would be way too long

I've always been told that for ext 1 long intros are good and you should have context, so I would keep a bit of it in the intro I think!

Ext 2 has already pretty much died out at my school, none of the new year 12s even do ext 1 english, it’s just not running… english teachers were really upset

We were taught to do 2BPs for 10marker with 3 quotes each.
and 2BPs for 15marker with 4 quotes each, or 3 smaller BPs with 2 quotes each.

No same, the cohort below me only has one e1 student and they're doing it by distance which is apparently very painful (macbeth in yr 11 is crazy, is this an insult to their intelligence?)

It’s really dependent on the day, but to help prepare write answers to practice questions (structuring it like the s2 essay but not necessary to be as polished) and make sure you are familiar with the module description!!!
They can only ask you things from the module description, so the more familiar you are with it, the easier it is write about it (even in creative pieces)!

Also as far as I was taught, how many paragraphs, etc. doesn’t matter as much for s1 since it’s on the spot, as long as you maintain cohesion and depth of analysis. You could do two paragraphs as long as it’s diving really deep into the text (three is better though).
Ext doesn’t really have as many “rules” as advanced, which means the questions can be a lot harder to answer (but I prefer it that way tbh).

Just a question. What do you mean by be "familiar with the module description"? Like know what they can ask or... idk I honestly don't understand how to use the description during my preparation.

This is going to sound absolutely absurd but the way our teacher taught us to do 25 mark criticals in S1 is to kind of use our creative pieces we would otherwise use as anecdotes/evidence in our essays. So like my body paragraph structure is:

Topic Sentence relating to question & construction of worlds -> Literary Theory -> Analysis -> TEXT 1/2 (quote it, analyse it and link to your ideas) -> Imaginative Section -> Analyse imaginative section and connect to your argument (and quote stimulus material again)

And then I do 2 of those big ones. But yeah agreed there is so much flexibility in ENX1 it's a bit disconcerting lol.

Also for 10 and 25 markers alike yeah he emphasised they do not care about structure because it's unseen texts they want you to just make a strong argument about literary worlds and connect the texts to that

By familiar I mean reading through and recognising the main concepts that the module description asks for. In literary worlds, the main themes/concepts/keywords are:

1. investigate, experiment with and evaluate the ways texts represent and illuminate the complexity of individual and collective lives in literary worlds.

- investigate and evaluate: this is analytical skills basically

- experiment with: this is creative skills - they want you to express the many aspects of human experiences in your writing by creating worlds in your writing in new and innovative ways. This means practicing writing widely and then polishing it, in time for your exam - remember the ‘tell the truth but tell it slant’ post I made?

2. Students evaluate how ideas and ways of thinking are shaped by personal, social, historical and cultural contexts.

Basically, these are some of the key points they could ask for. For example, the question might require you to write an critical investigating how a text portrays new ways of thinking (perhaps mimetic of their personal contacts, yet at odds with their sociocultural paradigm?).

3. They extend their understanding of the ways that texts contribute to their awareness of the diversity of ideas, attitudes and perspectives evident in texts.

It’s saying to read widely! Also could be touched on in questions as well (e.g. something about creating a literary world where the protagonist encounters an entirely new world? Idk it sounds a bit bland tbh)

Basically like this - do you understand every part of the description? Can you write about all of those things, and express them in your creative pieces?
Anyone who is reading this, have a look at the module description online (just search it up) and continue breaking it down like I did here.

Also don’t be afraid to add things from your elective unit (s2) in your s1 piece, they are just types of literary worlds (e.g. mindscapes, upheaval, homelands). Hope this helped!
