Hi foz!

No, I've actually never even seen 'Identity' (is it any good?)

My story and pretty much all the best bits I've done so far happen when I'm walking the long 20 min walk home and bored out of my brain- with nothing else to do, I tap into the "deep and meaningful' part of the 'deep and meaningful' part of my brain, trying to come up with something that I actually like and that the board will approve of.

But also, I've been writing a lot as part of self-imposed therapy, (very good for getting rid of tension, I strongly support it) and my major work is just an excuse for not having to come up with another damn idea- hence it does have a semi-autobiographical element, but it's all good :)

Best wishes!

Sounds like pretty cool ideas people.

Mines a character-driven plot, so I've begun writing it in First person, but because im trying to experiement, and because of the charcateristics of my protagonist (a 'disturbed' homosexual student) the writing swicthes style often. Most of the time, it is in first, then other times its in third, and there are some sections that it is writen in second. I find it makes it difficult for the audience to connect with, promoting the protagonists POV.

The storyline is quite 'irrelevant' that is, the physical journey *shivers* could be changed several ways and yet the story is unaffected. Bascially, the protagonist is already different. He is numb to the world and quite 'inverse' that is, for example, he likes rainy days, enjoys watching people suffer and fight etc. Then he kills another student.

Why? What are the concequences??

Seems like there are none. But through the change that occurs in the character, Im going to try and justify his actions via who he is, and what has made him so.
Anyone read books by Dennis Cooper? Much like his writing (he rockS!)

Laters poeple, and good luck!

Getting a vibe that everyone is going to go supremely exellently fantastically well with their MW's. Everyone's ideas seem so great, I want to read them all! Meanwhile I am writing about... well, I don't really know anymore *bangs head on keyboard gl'45yw[iy

My short story is based on the idea that a person's mind is very complex. I generally have a group of people with very different personalities. They fight, argue, talk to each other, comfort each other etc etc but the punchline really is that they are all just different aspects of same person (ie moods, emotions) but you don't find out until the end (and trying to figure out how to get that bit working- I don't want to like, come out and tell them or anything). The only hint I've given so far is that the names of the people- the first letters make up my own first name. I also play around with ideas like "I'm fighting with myself" and "inner demons" (eg one of my characters personifies depression).

As to research, well, since my story has an autibiographical element (but is NOT an autobiography) I had trouble with that too- but my teacher said just to "Read books, Review them, and Reflect upon them and how they link to your story", so I'm doing that :) The Three R's! :D

I've done like, pages and pages of preliminary research (ie just pages on what my characters are, what I want them to represent, how they talk, how you differenciate one from another so you can't tell the same person wrote all of them etc etc but I only have like, 1000 words... :S Lots of writing to do over the holidays!!!!

yeap yeap my story is like that, except my main character has 2 personalities and they are exhumed when she witnesses a death of her sister. She then gets raped and what have you.. then kills this guy and the evil personality takes over her..

Hey lovin everyone's ideas very intimidating...my short stories are based on the 1945 Hiroshima bombing exploring the efects and its a mixture of facts and complete fiction. I'm tryin to subvert the fiction genre by having my stories be factually accurate, funnily enough my genre is science fiction. its more a matter of convenience that this is my genre...it just kind of worked out that way...anyway what do people thinik?

Although, I am considering writing about a club of men that enjoy to fight, which soon becomes a worldwide phenomenon but then turns into a psychological thriller involving multiple personality disorder.

LOl @ glycerine. *Agrees ahaha.

Im writing about a teenager who is quite numb to the world around him. He commits a murder, and we witness the effect that it has on someone so numb. Its got a shitload of holes and weird stuff, but if i pull it off, it should certainly be something.

To make things interesting, the protagonist is not only gay, but struggles with the way he fits into the world. That side of things is a bit cliched, but i at least that'll be something solid to work off.

There's a few parts in my story that is apparently preceived as 'pornographic' (words spoken but the dept principal) i dont know how though, since it suppose to (and hopefully does) sound amazingly disturbing! *shivers

Mine's made of four stories that all examine the same theme- that society judges an individual based on their family's reputation. Each story is written in a different style, in a different time and on a different social level to enforce the fact that the theme I'm discussing's timeless.

Dirty minded little girl you are. ('Course saying that makes me a hypocrite).

Anyway, she's just gave me a good idea. After the HSC is done or something we ought to each submit a link to our stories. I want to read what the best English students in the state can do.

my story is about a twenty one year old manic depressive who wants to kill himself by jumping off the gap at sydney's south head at sunset on the spring equinox. he wastes the last twelve hours of his life doing all the stereotypical things people do before they die, but he's left feeling thoroughly dissatisfied. In the end he even fails to kill himself properly, leaving the reader to decide whether he lives or not.

ive nearly finished, and right now its ten thousand words long, but a lot of that is quotes.

my story is about religious mania. as im not a religious person in any sense, ive sort of tried to capture what i feel about religious people. this doesnt mean im critisizing them, i just have my own perseptions.
a girl is forced to live with her aunt and uncle, her aunt has religious mania and her uncle is schizophrenic. her cousin lives there also and is crazy too. her cousin ends up being crucified by her aunt, but the details about it are far to long to write here. its a very anne rice like story.
its a psychological drama... apparently its really disturbing, but i dont know if thats a good thing. i wanted it to give a definite message, but i dont know if i want people to feel uneasy about it!
im pretty worried cos i dont think my story is up to the standards that many of yours seem to be at, and as we're all competing against one another....im pretty scared now!

Hey, I'm a bit behind at 3008 words but meh I still have what 10 weeks? Mine is about four men that are part of the 2/28th Batallion they are the 'Rats of Tobruk' and it details their journey together throughout the war and one man's journey to freedom which is death for him. But yeah I'm enjoying writing it even if i still have a lot to go.
