Has anyone read "How to marry a millionaire vampire" or "vamps and the city" by Kerrelyn Sparks?

Screw Kerrelyn Sparks, go Anne Rice - the queen of vampire novels.

Anyone read the Saga of Darren Shan? Author's name is also Darren Shan, or there's no author on the cover. It's got quite a lot of short books(100-300 pages). I think there's 12 now.

I received a book called Anita Blake Vampire hunter for xmas (I know it sounds like a "Buffy" rip off but the series was written a few years before the movie and tv show) Its sort of set out as a hardboiled crime fiction novel (eg Raymond chandlers "the big sleep") and the main herione is as kickarse as buffy if not more so (minus the early 90's fashion disasters aka the "fannypack." Read them but ignore the fannypack.

Nothing wrong with reading Anne Rice novels. They're beautifully-written tales, although they are sometimes too deep and profound. Interview with the Vampire is amazing.

To sketch a picture of the New South Wales western railway line, all that’s required is an endless wire fence and a few rough looking gum trees, add a few sheep scampering away from the train tracks and the image you are left with would be that of any given section along the tracks.

Almost every railway town in the country consists of a public house and a general store. There would also be a water tank and a school nearby. You would also find a bar, probably known by the locals as the railway hotel. The hotel would most probably have a few young, messily dressed men sitting outside drinking.

Along the line you may also see country hiker, camping near the tracks with a tent and a small fire.

On board the train itself, you will most likely see cheap suits, sunburnt faces and unfashionable hats. As the train continues to travel you will cross the Macquarie river. It is nothing more than a narrow muddy gutter with a dog swimming across it and maybe three goats looking on.

Further on in the trip, you may notice what’s known as a sundowner, a man who is known to arrive at his destination he planned on sleeping at, right on dusk so that he wont have to contribute to any labour. He would have a billy in one hand and a stick in the other. He would be dressed in a faded tailcoat, a flannelette shirt, and a pair of moleskin trousers. This outfit would be topped of with a straw hat.

As the train passes Nevertire you would notice how dry the terrain is. None of the land would be fit for sitting on, its dry as could be. It rarely rains this far west. As you move on to Byrock you would start to notice shearers. Dressed like the unemployed they still show an independence and confidence. They sit on trucks and bails of hay along the train line fence. As the train stops in this area rougher country folk board the trains, furry beards and wellington boots are evident in the passengers attire.

As the train continues you will meet the one known as the bush liar. Dressed like a larrikin his name is Jim. He has been everywhere and almost seen everything. He had worked with the best but was still clueless to many things.

As the sun sets on the horizon. You may notice a line of camels wandering aimlessly. Once you see this picture, you’ve reached your destination, bourke, Western New South Wales.

The Anita Blake books are good but the last three or so were basically a mixture of porn and extreme voilence...

You have to be careful with the vampire novels around. Some make them really damn craptastic. The poorly written ones will lack detail and a genuine plot and just try and make it sound like a bloodlust orgy.

I agree, the Anee Rice vampire chronicles are excellent. I highly recommend Pandora. There's so much detail in the story. Also, has anybody read Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice?

I'm still a sucker for the Buffy novels..can't help it really :$

You guys think Anne Rice's novels are well-written? Wow are you starved for creativity.

Anne Rice is a mentally disturbed author who is in love with her own character (Lestat), and who's writing is immaturely steeped in overblown and deeply purple prose.

i love vampire novels. i have to say, i'm not an Anne Rice fan...Interview with the Vampire which everyone seems to love, really bored me. i felt like reaching in, grabbing hold of Louis' thoat and strangellig him...nothing seemed to happen for me. i do however want to read Queen of the Damned coz i loved the movie... Anita blake's novels didn't really cut it for me either. i'm picky with series but when i find one i like i'll read them all.

i love the 'vampire huntress series' by L. A. Banks- incorporates demons and vampires realy well.

darren shan saga is good- more for younger readers but still is a good read

The Dark-Hunter Series by Sherrilyn kneyon has an interesting take on vampires incorporating ancient mythology into it.

the carpathian novels by Christine Feehan are ok- i didn't like it too much but my friendz loved them.

i haven't read the Meyer books but they seem interesting.

I LOVE vampire books

I've been reading the Keri Arthur series, Riley Jenson Guardian, where the main character is half vamp, half werewolf

And Michelle Rowen's, Bitten & Smitten, and Fanged & Fabulous are pretty good too

I love Quinn in that series :( Damnset my addiction. If you like that then you might like the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward.. its way more explicit though.

Blue Bloods & Masquerade by Melissa De La Cruz aren't bad either.
