Errr... can someone explain to me the significance of ranks. I still dont get it!! And why did that girl say her maths marks are in the process of being scaled? Don't they get scaled in the end with everyone else in the state?

Your final assessment mark is scaled according to your rank and the z-score of your rank away from the mean mark. I'm not a huge authority on it (although I am on my hair), but that is the general gist of it. If you come first in the exam, the person coming first in the assessments essentially gets your mark. After that, the results are distributed by the z-score of each assessment mark. The assessment mark and that mark are then averaged to form the final assessment mark, which is then averaged with your external exam mark to determine your ultimate mark in the subject.

I'm probably wrong, but that is basically it.

Eng Adv - 83% - 1st
12/15 - creative, 13/15 - short answers, 14/15 - AOS,
15/20 - emma/clueless, 16/20 - frontline, 17/20 - gwen harwood

Maths - 82% - 1st
Ext. 1 Maths - 72% - 1st
Ext. 1 Eng - 68% lol :( - 3rd or 4th
Legal Studies - 84% - 2nd
Food Tech - 90% - 2nd
Economics - 61% lol - 4th

At least my ranks are okay. I'm happy considering I did last minute studying for every exam.
Although, overall im pretty screwed for ext. 1 eng.. since I only completed half of a 40% assessment.. bad move.

Okay... here i go.... i honestly dont know why i put my marks up here, because they are utterly disgraceful.

Advanced English -89% ~ 1st

um how do you get half marks? they don't exist in HSC land (however your marks are really good and aren't disgraceful at all lol)

I might as well also post my marks which were quite the bad although i did leave studying to the last minute lol.

English- I'm not gonna go there. So annoyed.
Maths 2u- 71%
Maths ext 1- 40% (lmao) but its been scaled but i dont know the result yet
Chem- 75% (i've sat on my arse all year doing nothing so this mark is pure luck)
Bio- 91 (maybe 92)%
SORI- 82% (hahahaha didnt study at all!)
Modern- 77% (read ppls syllabus summary notes the morning b4 the exam so i have the boredofstudies members to thank yay:))

Fair enough. I think I'm a bit the same actually, my ranks are fairly decent but my marks need a lot of work.

The Board of Studies won't take that as an excuse. Might have to start teaching yourself.

No, the teacher knows every detail concerning the course, however he does not like a persons opinion, unless it corresponds with his own opinion and point of view. I know all the facts i just have to formulate a precise answer.

How to write Modern essays: Get an easy-marker for a teacher, sit back and relax knowing you'll always get good marks in modern, until you realise your external exams will be marked by someone else :)

...So your views conflict with his and he marks you down as a result?
