A girl in my friends school also committed suicide yesterday, I dont know if it is the same girl...
Its really bad to see how the hsc can just break people

yea, i agree with everyone on here that it's such a shame to see events like this happen, though i came close sunday night. No, i do not have suicidal tendencies or anything, but i was involved in quite a horrifying accident, which i'm amazed i came out virtually unscaved, and so did the other person.

Though i do think that pressures of life can be very demanding, i spent most of early this week thinking of what happened in the accident, not the exams, but i don't believe that a life is worth an education. If you stuff up HSC, regardless of what your parents might say, there are other ways to success. I think that is the biggest problem though, as said above, everyone has different pressures, and a lot of the time, not enough people to support them through things.

To those going through exams and finding it tough, and for future exam takers, remember, it is just an exam, and wont determine what you become in the future. A lot of successful people failed some way through their life. You shape how your success comes about, not your exams.

Good luck to ya'll taking the exams, and if you are stressing, please, talk to someone, don't hold it inside.

I think it's a bit silly we're making all of these assumptions about a girl we don't know. It's a tragedy when someone feels they have no other way to cope. While the HSC was probably a pressure for her I don't think we can say that was her reason for choosing to end her life. I hope she rests in peace and I send my regards to her family in their time of grieving.

I'm sorry to say it but I feel no remorse for her (well conditionally). If she killed herself purely because she couldn't handle the HSC I honestly think very lowly of her, if its because of other more complicated issues, I would be more considerate. I only feel sorry for her family who are now without a daughter, niece or sister because of her inability to cope with half a dozen tests, that in the grand scheme of things are only a small portion of a person's life.

that's terrible! I really feel for her family and friends, and all the students directly affected at her school.

That is so sad. I heard another official news story. The CSATs in Korea (HSC equivalent) is all on ONE FUKEN DAY!!! JUST ONE!!! SO MUCH HARDER< RIGOROUS AND CRAZY, that it actually psychologically fuck you up, as in suidcide. ANyway, this father (last years story) took his whole family to the examination centre, drenched themselves (father, mother, younger brother and the son) in oil, and flamed themselves. The whole family commited suicide, just on some bad exam results. Google it if you want. I think it might be in the Korea Herald.

Unfortunately, cases like these are not uncommon in Korea, or anywhere else in the world.

I'm thanking god that I felt calm, in control and ready when I sat for the exam.

I'm pretty sure it's over two days.

Suicide is the easy way out but no one really knows except for herself what was happenning, she is in a better place now but it is the family, friends and surrounding people who suffer. I visited their school once and participated in a dance with her year a year ago but have no relation to her and a story like this does make me feel sad. I think the HSC is overrated and life is taken too seriously. Life is too short to be taken seriously, the pressure of school life and hsc is just too much, life is all about having fun and enjoying what God has given you.

she seemed to be such a fun outgoing and bubbly girl... but i guess it is such things that often mask inner suffering.
we should try support each other over these few weeks and of course, into the future aswell.

totally agree with Milad above ^^

its so sad that she had just turned 18 a week ago.. a young talented and successful young lady bearing many gifts to share, with a whole life ahead of her.. now no more.

How can you presume to know what is inside another person? You have never even met Lily but you saw fit to post this without due consideration to the people who knew and loved her, who browse this site and could come across your arrogant views. Every person has their breaking point; that does not place you above or below Lily, she reacted to her situation as she saw fit, we will never know what prompted her action but it is not for you to judge. This is a terrible time for the people who knew Lily without you publishing your self-righteous opinions.

Life is about more then succeeding in what humans see as success, like having a good job and being rich. There's more to this life then that, life isn't only about money or any of those things. It doesn't matter what you do for a living, or how much money you earn. Eventually we all indulge in the same things. People of all walks of life watch t.v either compulsively or occasionaly. People of all walks of life use the internet to communicate with people (which in Australia you will always have access too). People of all walks of life will likely get married and enjoy intimate and sexual pleasure. (Hopefully reproducing in the proccess and enjoying your children, your spawn.)

This is what we do in life. Just having completed year 10, all these things are possible to you.

In my opinion earning an average income is an awesome way to live. Especially, if you can:
- Do what you love.
- Earn enough to comfortably be able to afford what you need.
- Live close by to family and friends.
- Have time to go out and make new friends and socialise.

Really, that's all you need.
