I type notes because in that way, I can print out neat notes that I can actually read.

I write notes because I can learn during that process.

And I do both because it's effective doing both. But once I finish, I move on to past papers.

Re: Write notes or type notes ?

I do all my work on my laptop. I've got one of the netbooks that are half the size of a normal one so that I can access all my info anywhere. I'm getting a spare battery too, so that it'll last a full school day.

Write notes in class/study then type them up at home?

I didn't do that consistently, but I type notes. Writing pisses me off, its such a dud form of communication imo, the only time I ever write is at school. I type twice as fast and its infinitely more legible. Granted its much better for maths and some sciences but for essays and notes blehhhhhh.

Re: Write notes or type notes ?

I prefer writing them because I have this weird kind of colour-coding/highlighting/layout system that I've devised; plus because I think it helps me remember.

But typing notes out has its benefits as well - I do that too because eventually I get sick of looking at those white index cards covered in my handwriting. And then I have to read over them anyway in order to type them up.

It's really up to the person I guess...

Re: Write notes or type notes ?

i agree with 9deuce, typing notes your open to all sorts of distractions, for me i might check my emails, read the news or if im doing an interesting topic i'll google more. Throughout the HSC and prelim i found the best way to study was to write notes from class notes, text book, ahmad shad idil's chem and bio notes, as well as hsc online and various websites. I put all of these written notes in a binder and re-wrote notes for concepts i found a little trickier.

Re: Write notes or type notes ?

I type the notes. However i used to write, and i find that if i touch type (which i do) i read the notes as i am typing them and it sinks in heaps more then when i handwrite them, it is all up to you though... I hate handwriting them cos i like my note's neat, and then i can keep them and put them up here too. it is heaps more convienient.

however I have the habit of typing notes then forgetting to print them then i never read them

Thats what Ive been doing, its good because I type the notes a few days later and its sorta like revising and sticks more in my mind that way.

Its just very very time consuming

i do the same. i agree that writing them out is effective for memory but i really need to be honest with myself by saying that my handwriting looks like someone was trying to write neatly using their non-writing hand
while on small dinghy
going down river rapids.

so i type them up again for the benefit of being able to then read them later on which would otherwise be impossible =]
