I generally have trouble talking to maths and comp students (well not so much trouble, because personally i dont really care). I just dont mingle well with them, despite the fact its my degree. I've spoken to no one in these subjects, but in my arts subject i took this year ive spoken to many. Its weird, maybe im an arts student stuck in a science degree (except for the fact i hate arts subjects and love maths) :( I'm just lucky i knew a fair few people that go to unsw before i started.

How do you find the courage to do that though - I just can't chat up anybody, I've tried but it usually fails.
social skills are just like anything else, they can be studied and learnt, but you have to find the initiative first. however, i would try it in tutes rather than lectures, it's less intimidating

The three questions that I ask new people are:

Are you married?
Do you have a class now?
Mind having coffee with me?
The three questions that new people ask me are:

Is this the tutorial for ELECXXXX ?
What's your name?
What's your WAM?
See, conversation can be quite different depending who you are

Or alternatively, just drink lots of alcohol before, and whilst your at uni...that may or may not help.

Computer folk like myself (who is doing science strangely) drink coke, not mountain dew. Don't you have any idea of how the super literate compyter folk operate? :p

I like Mountain Dew, it's no Pepsi, but it beats all other soft drinks...except maybe RC Cola...
