Is it just me or does english suck it hardcore for you guys too??

Theres no logic behind it and its all about waffling about crappy texts that no one cares about and trying to draw out somewhat superficial meanings

Its so not straightfoward, there is no correct answer and it frustrates the hell out of me

Its the only subject im not topping

Heh, all that really doesn't quite convice of the fact that "English is not that bad" :p

I just feel so...tired...every time after I do English, cos I feel like I'm totally emptying my heart out whenever I'm doing English stuff. Eeek. You really don't want that feeling on a daily basis :p

I agree - English just seems to be pointless, unless of course you're deciding to go into that direction for your career and/or further studies. I don't understand why they made it compulsary, thoguh - one of my teachers explained to me a while back that they made it compulsary because some people were going into Uni not knowing how to write! Well, I figure - most of us have been doing it for most of our lives! Really, what's an extra two years of tearing and ripping apart beautiful literature and attempting to analyse it all going to do? Gah. It makes me angry. I actually really like literature like Shakespeare, but having to prod and tear at it just takes it's qualities away as well as any appreciation you had for it before.

I am really hating english this year, in fact, the last two years. It just seems that the time I spend doing english, I could be studying one of my other subjects or even, studying a competely different subject that I would find half interesting. C'mon Board of Studies, what IS the point of learning something you don't want to be taught?

i dunno gina... i rather enjoy the intellectual enlightenment that could only be brought about by a session of socialist and feminist propaganda that only a certain english teacher can propagate.
i have honestly liked english this year, i thought that blade runner was a BORE but lear was alright, and so was doing coleridge in the long run.
how didya go today? i didn't get to finish section a) but other than that, i thought i did an exceptional job articulating my ideas.
In hindsight, what do you think of the 'choice' question... i reckon all our answers will sound the same.
EVERYONE used Khan and Lim's pieces though, so i do think everyones answers will be ridiculously similar

I don't know Volldoggy, sounds like you're more upset that you are not first in the class than anything. Perhaps a nice, warm glass of reality will calm you down?

Well Joel, I don't think there's any need to get rid of it completely. I just don't understand why it's the only subject that's compulsary. To me it's pointless and I really am not enjoying it, but it's good to hear you've found it interesting - I only wish I shared your view, then I probably wouldn't be looking at it so negatively.

I think I did ok today, but not exceptionally. Stupid me, I attempted to remember too much and ended up actually remembering hardly any. I finished the paper right on the finishing time, which was good for me because I'm usually hopeless with time management.

I thought the choice question wasn't too bad - I only briefly used Khan, concentrated on the Ancient Mariner and The Road Not Taken (by which I knew jack-all on it, but attempted it none the less). I didn't read the question properly though and only realised when I got to the conclusion... oh well.

One down, six to go.

Yeah well you can t be good at everything

I would still hate it if i wasnt topping it, cmon i still hate subjects i am topping, e.g.pdhpe and business studies but i have to say that english is by far the worst, half the stuff is completely unapplicable to real life, its all about stupid psychology and history then your expected to write about it in some perfect form analysing completely un related crap, asking stupid questions about "how does this shape meaning" and crap like that, they dont even teach you how to write half the text types your required to know, your forced to use arty farty crappy language with distorted meanings seriously wtf is with "composer" and "responder", how about writer and reciever, then your forced to go through whatever youve written with a thesarus and ensure that you havent seen any word on your page before with exception to the word "a" whilst analysing some piece of crap written by people 500 years ago for people 500 years ago

the only decent part of english is the speeches module of advanced english

And its impossible to get over 80% no matter how hard you try, ive tried and it cant be done

and how the hell are you going to get through australian schools not knowing how to write, the only subject you dont write in is maths and that only goes to 4 units, unless your doing some dodgy course like cooking or hospitality in which case your probably not interested in going to university and writing theses

Its crap and it absolutely frustrates the hell out of me, maths should be compulsary, not english

English is a good subject because it requires a whole lot more intellect than applying numbers to an equation, or applying a certain situation to a method you use over and over again.
English requires intellect to substantiate and articulate arguments. Well structured, clear concise arguments. Kind of like the argument that is occuring here.
English should be compulsory as it is the national language of australia, is maths?

Natty b, who the hell are you?

I am so bloody over english, my teacher is this idiot who taugh me absolutly nothing over the past 2 years, and english is my weakest point. All he writes is a mark on my essay, and nothing else. I dont mind criticism, atleast it tells me what not to do next. And english is about your interpretation of a particular text, and sometimes it can be wrong >.> . And top of all English is one of the most ireggular languages in the world. *sigh* i am having a fit over my english problems right now...
