i posted about their money printing problems in the gold thread. some say america is going to go through a phase of hyperinflation. maybe, maybe not. america is in a unique position of having their currency as the international dollar. resources, trade, banks - everything is based on it, therefore there is always demand.

even though that guy's speech was full of misinformation, the sentiment is very real.

pretty sure this isn't going anywhere though

edit: also pretty sure that guy has autism. the motor tics and stereotypy are there and potential restricted behaviour.

first reasonable thing i've come across

For the most part I agree with this guy and ideologically I agree with the movement.

I don't think it's going to do anything, but it's refreshing to see people getting up and trying to do something rather than letting these insane bailouts happen.

how can you "ideologically agree" with a incoherent movement that has no ideology and is purely a popular expression of discontent

funky monk: misinformation

morgan stanley and goldman sachs did not receive bailouts (although there were emergency liquidity provisions that were promptly paid back). although some argue that bailing out AIG was a goldman sachs inside job, the fact is goldman sachs had AIG related assets of around ~18bn. the total credit facility drawn up for AIG was around 85bn and another 40bn under TARP. there were far more players involved than goldman sachs, clearly (such as the Fed which took around an 80% equity stake in AIG as collateral)

he also seems to be taking the robert reich argument that real wages have fallen (even though his evidence is anecdotal - HIS wages havent risen and prices have) which is an argument at odds with what i assume his ideological position is.

also the notion that all the US exports is defence capital goods is patently false. and even if it was true, it's a legitimate industry, so who gives a fuck?

he also is misinformed about the fractional reserve system (although he does capture the gist of it). his argument is also based on a crude understanding of the money multiplier (a contested notion that isn't empirically proven, except as an ex-post accounting identity). he rambles on and then says FIAT CURRENCY! ITS A FIAT CURRENCY! his only relevant point on gold is that people flock to it during crisis.

"every dollar taken in federal taxation is another dollar they spend" err, wut? "that they send overseas" err, wut?

"wall street owns all the wealth" err wat

his whole rant is just an incoherent stream of consciousness. the lucid moments are profound but scarce, and coincide with him addressing the popular issue of discontent (wall street socialism).

armchair psychiatry: he exhibits cognitive disorganisation, splitting, ad he also mentioned the prices of trains went up, and autistics fucken love trains.

peaceful protests never result in anything. every significant uprising in history had blood on the streets.

The govt needs to make college free and also implement a law that guarantees employment no matter what degree a person has.

haha mate

what

you agree ideologically with this?

"Demand one: Restoration of the living wage. This demand can only be met by ending "Freetrade" by re-imposing trade tariffs on all imported goods entering the American market to level the playing field for domestic family farming and domestic manufacturing as most nations that are dumping cheap products onto the American market have radical wage and environmental regulation advantages. Another policy that must be instituted is raise the minimum wage to twenty dollars an hr.

Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system. To do this all private insurers must be banned from the healthcare market as their only effect on the health of patients is to take money away from doctors, nurses and hospitals preventing them from doing their jobs and hand that money to wall st. investors.

Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.

Demand four: Free college education.

Demand five: Begin a fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end while at the same bringing the alternative energy economy up to energy demand.

Demand six: One trillion dollars in infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Rail, Roads and Bridges and Electrical Grid) spending now.

Demand seven: One trillion dollars in ecological restoration planting forests, reestablishing wetlands and the natural flow of river systems and decommissioning of all of America's nuclear power plants.

Demand eight: Racial and gender equal rights amendment.

Demand nine: Open borders migration. anyone can travel anywhere to work and live.

Demand ten: Bring American elections up to international standards of a paper ballot precinct counted and recounted in front of an independent and party observers system.

Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all. Debt forgiveness of sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans now! All debt must be stricken from the "Books." World Bank Loans to all Nations, Bank to Bank Debt and all Bonds and Margin Call Debt in the stock market including all Derivatives or Credit Default Swaps, all 65 trillion dollars of them must also be stricken from the "Books." And I don't mean debt that is in default, I mean all debt on the entire planet period.

Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies.

Demand thirteen: Allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time during a union organizing campaign or at any time that represents their yeah or nay to having a union represent them in collective bargaining or to form a union.

These demands will create so many jobs it will be completely impossible to fill them without an open borders policy."

people with aspergers really do love trains

i don't know about autistic people but the number one obsession that people with aspergers tend to have is trains

they stand around at train crossings photographing trains that go past or they make videos of them and put them on youtube

these people are basically evil

especially if you imagine demand four and demand eight in combination with demand nine

Admin note: This is not an official list of demands. This is a forum post submitted by a single user and hyped by irresponsible news/commentary agencies like Fox News and Mises.org. This content was not published by the OccupyWallSt.org collective, nor was it ever proposed or agreed to on a consensus basis with the NYC General Assembly. There is NO official list of demands.

etc.

its pretty on par with the consensus though

and the fact that there is no official list of demands is even more retarded

Here's another list that keeps getting published around the place. Like the other one its on the forum and the link says it's an "official" release but I can't find it anywhere on the actual website. Just the forum. Again some of the demands have nothing to do with Wall Street.

This.

Declaration of the Occupation of New York City

As we gather together in solidarity to express a feeling of mass injustice, we must not lose sight of what brought us together. We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world can know that we are your allies.

As one people, united, we acknowledge the reality: that the future of the human race requires the cooperation of its members; that our system must protect our rights, and upon corruption of that system, it is up to the individuals to protect their own rights, and those of their neighbors; that a democratic government derives its just power from the people, but corporations do not seek consent to extract wealth from the people and the Earth; and that no true democracy is attainable when the process is determined by economic power. We come to you at a time when corporations, which place profit over people, self-interest over justice, and oppression over equality, run our governments. We have peaceably assembled here, as is our right, to let these facts be known.

They have taken our houses through an illegal foreclosure process, despite not having the original mortgage.

They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.

They have perpetuated inequality and discrimination in the workplace based on age, the color of one's skin, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.

They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.

They have profited off of the torture, confinement, and cruel treatment of countless nonhuman animals, and actively hide these practices.

They have continuously sought to strip employees of the right to negotiate for better pay and safer working conditions.

They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.

They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.

They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.

They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.

They have sold our privacy as a commodity.

They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press.

They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.

They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.

They have donated large sums of money to politicians supposed to be regulating them.

They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.

They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantive profit.

They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.

They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.

They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.

They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad.

They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.

They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. *

To the people of the world,

We, the New York City General Assembly occupying Wall Street in Liberty Square, urge you to assert your power.

Exercise your right to peaceably assemble; occupy public space; create a process to address the problems we face, and generate solutions accessible to everyone.

To all communities that take action and form groups in the spirit of direct democracy, we offer support, documentation, and all of the resources at our disposal.

Join us and make your voices heard!

*These grievances are not all-inclusive.
