More like, there needs to be a sex maximum amount of time you can be on the dole AND the reporting procedures for job seekers need to be more stringent.

As far as I know, all you have to do is say you've applied for job x,y,z but you didn't get the job.

What? You're blowing this up to be something it's not. The idea is that if you're in receipt of the dole you should be honestly and sincerely:
(a) looking for work; and
(b) attempting to get your shit together in general.

Centrelink already requests bank statements and evidence of your job searching activities as a condition of the allowance, why is this a bridge too far?

Proposition a) Welfare recipients have not got their shit together
Proposition b) Welfare recipients use drugs

You're asking us to agree with the assumption, with no evidence, proposition b causes proposition a. Which may be the case in some circumstances, but would be far from the absolute truth, routine drug testing and discrimination on the unemployed would punish many people with casual, non-problematic drug habits.

The basis on which unemployment benefits are assessed, same as your job performance, should be done purely on the basis of performance. There are extensive demands and monitoring in place already, requirements to apply for ten jobs a fortnight, attend all interviews, keep an extensive dole diary, accept any job offer etc...

If people don't search for work because of drug use, absolutely they should not receive welfare, however the outcomes, and not the drug use, should be the concern.

I think the DSP has more then some problems. Even if you think that most people on the DSP have a genuine disability that presents then from working and most unemployed people are genuinely trying to find a job the number of people dependent on the taxpayer is scary.

With the aging population that number is going to come down one way or the other as it simply won't be sustainable to have 3 workers for every person being supported by the Government. My guess is the DSP will get tougher to get, the single parents will get kicked off the pension and the savings from that will be used to fund the increasing age pensions bill.
