This question just suggested your total lack of knowledge about all this God business.

Again T-Mac, you just question my 'knowledge' without actually backing it up or making a real statement that I can even defend. Keep your rhetoric to yourself please or explain exactly why you think atheists are communists.

Oh, listen, kids this entire God debate is really a profound metaphor on the metaphysical nature of transcendental beings known as death.

God lives on. Why? Because humans do not.

Therefore, God, for me, is a parameter: He is a manifestation of our mind, a set of values based on consciousness, a rather etched, relativist (and cute) impulse. For we are "god". God is very much alive. We aim to be "gods", we are a humanity that "seeks out" God in our lives: we became Gods, we believe in Gods. God is a kind of neat teleological metaphor of what we can, cannot be, and want to do. God is wielded when we need him, and when he doesn't exist he IS there. God's a cloud that has a sense of humour.

So, where do I stand?

I know there is no GOD (seeing is believing right?), but that doesn't mean we shouldn't believe in him.

For starters, I believe in myself, and I believe in you. For "we" are Gods.

Don't you agree?

Steven Spadijer

In other words, you don't believe in 'God' as we've been discussing it so far, but simply assigned the name to something else. But that's not really a compromise or a mid-ground in any sense, it's just changing the argument to another topic completely. I could call the force of nature 'God', the force of death 'God' or the earth itself 'God', but I don't think it's really relevant to the argument... which is about whether or not a conscious, higher level entity which created the universe exists. All you've done is said that God doesn't exist. Correct me if I'm wrong =P

I believe you see it that way because no amount of rhetoric, no amount of logic, no amount of argument will ever shift belief in God. The only times I've really heard people abandon their faith is when something bad happens to their family or friends, or they see, for example, the kids cancer ward. Faith relies on emotions, and so is generally only abandoned through an emotional experience, not through cool logic.
That's not really an argument... all you're doing is making a generalisation and attacking his credibility while not addressing his point.

If you knew that particular area of knowledge concerned, I wouldn't have questioned it. My comment is telling you that jack you know about communism and it's relation to atheist. I'm trying not to be rude, but this is not about God, it's more about freedom and civil rights movement in countries still under central leaderships. You just made yourself a clown asking that stupid question. Of course, those that are clowns wouldn't have noticed it.

I believe people are making a link between the 1789 French Revolution, driven in part by socialist sentiment, and atheism. France, as a kind of de facto secular state, overwhelmingly rejected symbols of the counter-revolution such as refractory priests.

Nevertheless, stupid and irrelevant argument. Atheism does not entail communism/socialism. As much as communist states embody socialism, it's more a symbolic gesture to vestiges of the past than anything really ideological.

Actually make your point, don't just allude to it.

No, it is infact that we are never going to agree! Because each individual has their own belief about "God" and is steadfast in this belief. Simple as that.
Or it could just be that the question is necessarily indeterminable.

Actually what I was doing was pointing out that faith relies on emotions. I was also actually responding to a specific post which pointed out that another post was not using logic, merely empty words.
It wasn't an attempt to attack that posters credibility either, emotions are a part of human nature. So if Faith is not based on emotion what is it based on? It can't be logic because belief in something you cannot see, smell, hear, touch taste etc is not logical.

Most of my opinions were not for people to try to convince me to new perspectives; I've already made my own conclusion. So when I make a post, it's because I feel like it - that is just to piss you off.
Also, I don't see how my effort to open any discussions is useful in proving anything. Considering the amount of normal, mild or twisted stances people have in this thread relative to my own which could also be freely categorised.
