ultimately though, make the most of yr 11, because really, you're only competing against your class mates at the moment. next year, you're competing against the entire state.

This gives me relief, but not for the reasons you'd intend. I would RATHER compete against the state than my school. The amount of pressure that is put on me and my peers in the bubble I live in can be overwhelming at times. Meauring up against the rest of the state would only put things into perspective.

Actually, it's a common perception shared not only by students who have finished high school, but teachers too. The jump from Year 10 to Year 11 is much more drastic than Year 11 to Year 12. A lot of students find the workload something they're not used to. Year 12 is more of the same, but at least it's not a whole new ball-game like Year 11 is considered to be.

year 12 is "easier" in the sense that by the time you get there you will have gotten used to getting lots and lots of assessments and have to hand them all in on one day or something (from year 11). its not as much of a shock from doing zero work in year 10 then starting to have to do some in year 11.

th eonly thing hard about yr11 is the exams.. you go into them with no idea what to expect because you had too much fun socialising in class to do the work...




in yr12 you pay for it!

:wave: i wanted to jst drop out all through yr 11! until like term 3 where i got used to it and it was ok...and then yr 12 starts out like yr 11 until u realise how much stuff u gotta do and how u have to step it up quite a bit..but dont be discouraged..itll be worth it. and yr 11 does get easier!

Thats what I've always complained about. Just the thought of me dropping out was so impossible but I craved it so much.

Ah, in a sense year 11 is okay. The past few days I've felt the pressure though with assignments due on the same day, "social problems" lol, and many other things. But its all come out pretty good, I hope.

I thought the middle of Term 1 was the hardest, just because there were SO many assessments due at the same time and the work was expected to be of such a high quality I was not used to. But I think it's a matter of settling in. By the time Term 4 comes around, yeah, the work will be harder but knowing how to manage it all will be easier.

I didn't find the jump from Y10 to Y11 that bad, don't know why. Y12 was harder than Y11, but it was a gradual steepening, not a sudden leap.

Please assure me that you're only joking; for the HSC, and most certainly internal assessments, are based on stuff that's also in the Preliminary course -- for example, in the sciences, they might ask you a question that requires knowledge of something else. I dunno, but that's hypothetically anyway.

Preliminary forms a base for the HSC, yeah. However, they're not allowed to ask you about content that's in the preliminary syllabus and not the HSC syllabus (except in maths). So in Y12 Chem they can't ask you to rite about the production of copper from copper ore, which is preliminary material.

yeahh I find y11 pretty hard... I moved here from NZ at the in Jan, there are no selective schools there so at my average school I was pretty much top in everything and now that im at good selective school here im at the bottom! maths and english are a lot harder, science not so much since I did accelerated. not only that the change makes it harder to focus, and I think since theres a lot less competition there it would have been much easier to get into gud uni courses, the positive is that i will be better educated. so yeah y11 is hard

Yr 11's been ok so-far. I had to quit my job about mid-way through term one because I couldn't keep up with the assignments etc. but I'd been looking for an excuse to quit for a while.

But I'm coping with the work fine.
In fact, if HSC is anything like this, I'm hardly worried.

Work wise, I feel the same way as you. The difficulty is generally fine, its just the pace in which we move through the material. My issue with it all is with so many assignments being due around the week or so preceding half-yearlies. I just felt so overwhelmed.

I guess its all preparation for next year. Because I don't think its going to get any easier. Actually, I know its not going to get any easier.

ok...for me..year 11 is not that really hard. Some people might think it so.
but it all depends on the person!

the sucky thing is that they give us GAZILLIONs of homework !!!

but if you are responsible enough to keep your pace...you're doing good.

But if you're falling behind, then it's harder for you to catch up..

I think it's a huge leap in workload. I get three times the amount of homework I got in junior years.

I dont find the majority of it difficult.. But does anyone else not see the point of doing senior English?!
It is the most rediculous excuse of a subject ever!
Anyone who sees things differently, can you let me know? I would like to find a reason for doing the only compulsary course in the HSC.

hey, yes its hard! way too much work. good preparation for next yr.
just try to not stress (tho thats kinda hard) especially over english! most pointless subject ever!
