I keep hearing attitudes similar to this among my friends and acquaintances (usually brunette ones, i wonder why)....but I don't agree. I thought I'd make a thread and see what BOS thinks.

I'm a natural blonde and the few times I've dyed my hair it's always been a blonde shade. I know I'd look gross as a brunette. Someone half-accused me of wanting bleached bimbo hair because I mentioned that my current hair colour is a bit too dark for my liking. It pissed me off, because up till my teens my natural hair colour was actually quite light and I just want to go back to that because I know it suits me well.

I just think that you should choose your hair colour according to your natural foundations. I'm sick of the assumption that if you're blonde by choice, you're a bimbo or somehow less sophistocated than a dark haired person. Dark hair can look disgusting on the wrong person, but somehow this point always manages to evade discussions about hair colour.

I realise this is a bit of a rant, sorry. Just wanted to make this thread so I don't bite someone's head off the next time I hear "oh but brunette is so classy." fuck off seriously

Agreed. Plus it's the really really fake platinum blondes who ruin it for us. God I hate them.

I don't get as much slack for it but I would never dye my hair brown, one, because whenever I get my hair cut there is always someone next to me saying "Oh I love your color, I wish I had it" and two, it wouldn't suit my complexion at all.

It basicly comes down to this, different hair colours suit diffrent people and i agree sometimes that dark hair doesnt go good on a natural blonde and vica versa however the major thing that comes into effect here is skin colour which defines the type of hair colour that suits you best.

lol i don't mean it as a generalisation, guys. just seems to me that the general (lol) consensus when it comes up in conversation is that brunette is somehow better/sexier than blonde. i think they both have their good and bad points. i get riled up when people say stuff like that and it's like, um, i'm still here, you know.

hey-- I'm a natural blonde too and I reckon that "Blond is trashy" view only really applies to platinum blonde hair-- mainly cause you invariably encounter it on porn stars/ pin up girls, eg. Hugh Hefners three girlfriends.

I also used to have really light hair when I was young so now I give it a little lift with some highlights. Because of the natural tonal variation it still looks completely natural.

You know how people who aren't getting any are invariably prudes who always take the moral highground? I think the same concept applies here

As much as guys might say they prefer brunettes, a natural blonde always attracts ALOT of attention and its pretty easy to demonstrate that you go against the stereotype if you like the guy. Equally, if you're a complete moron, brown hair isn't going to act as a cover for your lack of a brain for very long.
