hey, just wanna know BOS gives ranks too double check for errors, why don't they also give out raw skool assessment marks as they are equally important with ranks? I'm pretty sure teachers might make mistakes in that also.

The raw school assessment marks are only used to determine the relative difference in marks between each student in the year. Those raw assessment marks are moderated by the board of studies to ensure fairness throughout the state.

As a result, the new moderated assessment mark could vary significantly to the raw school assessment mark. If the school released those raw marks to the students it may cause some confusion.

[comment]But if you are talking about the raw moderated assessment mark, those marks aren't officially released to every student. You'd need to submit a FOI application to the board of studies requesting it, which has a $30 processing fee. (Don't think this was necessary.)[/comment]

The raw school marks are less important than your rankings. Only the raw mark of the people ranked 1st and last in a class are relvant. I think.......

I was looking at school assessment moderator, just say if ur ranked 2nd but the mark difference between u and the 1st position is great, ur moderated school assessment mark has a big difference (and vice versa). So I don't think rank is more important--they're equally important.

ive never seen the equation for working out moderated assessment marks so i'm not sure. I know the 1st ranked person gets the highest exam mark as their assessment mark and the last ranked person gets the lowest exam mark, and that the class assessment average is moderated to equal the class exam average. aside from that i know nothing

In www.boredofstudies.org/moderate.php put anything for school assessment(different for each student) and put some constant number for exam mark for every student (same number for every student) ...then the school moderated asessment mark is same for every student. Which is prob the main reason most ppl in James Ruse get heaps mad marks even if they stuff up school (notice the word IF) assessment cos most ppl get really high marks in final HSC....very very lucky people

The difference of raw marks between different rankings is important as well as the rankings themselves

Just note that when your coming first, second third or whatever, that doesn't necesarilly mean you will get a good moderated assessment mark.

When you are ranked first, if you given the highest exam mark as your moderated assessment mark. As a result, if the highest exam mark isn't very high, then your moderated assessment mark won't be very high.

true, that's why I said James ruse students (and from other good schools) are so lucky......cuz there is very low probability of them stuffing up in final exams

The thing is, it's not because it's 'James Ruse' that makes it lucky.

It just so happens they enrol the highly acedemic students, as a result will perform very well in the finals.

If a low acedemic student went to James Ruse and performed identically to how he would in a less acedemic school, the result would be no different to if he stayed at the low acedemic school, as he would of have performed sufficiently in James Ruse.
