supposed awards, i guess recognition for achievements and other bs like lmao u get a award if you finish all your assignments/assessments on time also glorified ranking since we never get a ranking during our year

tonight's award night for students. mfw i might get first for physics for avg 55% for exams & i dropped it complete turnaround compared to the previous years. runner-up dux gets dux, and previous dux is third, and a new person becomes dux.

    2016ers Chit-Chat Thread

starting to feel the stress in doing 4u. so to invest more time in 4u, you basically have to lessen time in 2u and 3u correct? 2u contains the basics of stuff, our teacher suggests us to know the basics well, but I'm pressured to avoid falling behind as the other students that are in...

"Complex Roots always come in pairs"

I'm doing a question where (2-i)z2 - (1+i)z + 1 = 0 One of the roots is i, therefore the other one should be the conjugate of i -> -i, isn't it? But putting in -i doesn't give me 0. I check Wolfram Alpha and it is an entirely separate number, how do I solve this?

Anyone keen to share their after school schedule?

Personally I don't think it's a good idea to have that much free time early after school, rather I feel that studying first then rewarding yourself is a better idea. My study pattern fluctuates depending on how many Assessments are coming up, homework, and lessons that I didn't understand...

    Triangle Inequality.

I realised after testing it. So rather than what I wrote, the correct condition is: arg (z2) = -180 + arg(z1) Yes, seems simple enough. I did Prelim Physics and doing this seems the right way, but graphically solving it on the Argand diagram gives me a headache and gives me this monstrosity...

    Triangle Inequality.

Thank you. So to summarise. Similarly to a normal triangle inequality, the reverse triangle inequality also requires at least one of the complex no.'s being 0 OR, z1 & z2 have the same orientation. The different condition is that arg(z1) = -arg(z2) could also work. May I ask, when adding...

    Triangle Inequality.

Ok so what porcupinetree was talking about as in the same direction, does that mean the vectors essentially has to have the same argument? I was interpreting it as the same general direction. So it would work for these right? z1 = 1+i, z2 = 2+2i z1 = 0, z2 = 0 If I understand correctly, if...

    Triangle Inequality.

    So for in order the equality to occur where LHS = RHS: arg (z1) = arg (z2) OR z1 or z2 = 0 Thus the equality would work in the following: z1 = 2 + i, z2 = 1 + 2i z1 = 7 + 2i, z2 = 8 + 6i <- so as long as they are in the first quadrant. So, is my explanation for a) fine? What about b)?

    Triangle Inequality.

    The question is: Using the parallelogram method along with a diagram, why: a. |z1 + z2| <= |z1| + |z2| What conditions need to occur for |z1 + z2| = |z1| + |z2|? Similarly b. |z1 - z2| <= |z1| - |z2| What conditions need to occur for |z1 - z2| = |z1| - |z2|? I've given a try for a...

    W;t & John Donne; tips?

Two fairly complex areas of texts which we have started studying into. I have a listening task coming up and I start realising a ton of things when I read essays etc. I can't clearly find connections on my own and only one or two quotes come up to mind from John Donne when reading parts of...

Looking for a Tutor for HSC Maths - 4U-2U

I'm currently doing 4U Maths in HSC and am in my first term of my HSC. There are a lot of great choices on Tutorfinder etc but I'm not sure if those are right for me. I'm currently in the middle of doing Complex Numbers and Binomial Theorem, and I'm worried that some tutor centres which have...

Converting Degrees to Radians in Rad mode on the fx-100AU?

It's not like its a necessity. If I even have one worry that the school will check then I simply won't use the calculator. The ES still has other functions other than radians that the 100AU doesn't have, e.g. modifying the base of logarithms, shows exact values instead of decimals - all things...

Converting Degrees to Radians in Rad mode on the fx-100AU?

Thanks. We only recently started using radians so we're not familiar, however I do know exact ratios. It's the irregular angles that I am using this for. The examples I used in the post are, after all, examples. As for the calculator, I'll find a way :P. If not I'll just bring two anyway.

Converting Degrees to Radians in Rad mode on the fx-100AU?

I recently purchased the fx-100AU for its imaginary functions, but also as a main calculator since my fx-82ES is starting to die. When I'm converting Radians to Degrees in Deg Mode, it works fine [ pi (SHIFT->ANS->r)] makes 180 etc etc. However the opposite doesn't work as well - converting...

To HSCers who did both Biology and Physics: Which one did you prefer?

I'm completely sure that Physics is going to be the right choice to drop if I decided to change my mind on Engineering during the next year, yet I realise that: The Pros of Physics - High Scaling, Pre-Req for Engineering, Possibly more interesting due to being one of the purest, and may go well...

To HSCers who did both Biology and Physics: Which one did you prefer?

I'm a Prelim'er going into HSC and preparing to drop subjects. I mostly prefer rote learning (love topics like Business Studies) but can cope with calculations as I do Ext1/2 Maths. I'm choosing between dropping Physics and Biology. I got better marks in Biology (65%) due to having a worse...
