Not to hi-jack this thread too much, but if any of you advanced maths kids want to buy a discrete maths textbook, PM me :)

2U/3U maths tutoring from STGGHS maths god ($30/hr)

Lol too late, can't change titles on BoS. :( I'll make a correction - I saw her as a maths god, and she was St George Girl's local maths god. Although she didn't do as well as she usually does in her final exam, she is still a great tutor. :) Thanks for your feedback.

2U/3U maths tutoring from STGGHS maths god ($30/hr)

Hello BoS! Advertising for my friend Jeanne, who was St George Girl's 2010 maths god. :D Here's her qualifications and stuff: I can personally testify on her great tutoring skills, she was pretty much the go-to person at St George for maths help in 2010 and she has definitely helped me a lot...

    ATAR for comp sci.

@MrBrightside: Then it sounds like IT at UTS is perfect for you. At UNSW, first year maths would be quite intensive for you, but none compulsory in later years. From the website, it looks like the amount of compulsory maths is about the same for USYD and UNSW. Flexibility wise, UNSW looks better...

    ATAR for comp sci.

USyd has the smaller cohort, and it's smaller in general. Yeah UNSW has always been at the top for Australia.

    ATAR for comp sci.

Nope no physics required. And I was referring to the degree, yes the ethics courses is about management and ethics and other 'soft' things, *but* you only have to do one course on it - not the focus of the degree as you know. I believe I made a thread on USyd vs. UNSW last year, should still be...

    ATAR for comp sci.

What it seems they are looking for with the HSC plus subjects is not directly related content, but your ability to handle the higher level reasoning and logic that you will need in the degree. While 4 unit isn't required, it is quite helpful for first year maths, and without 3 unit it might be a...

    ATAR for comp sci.

I know a few people who got in with lower than the published cut-off 90.05 is pretty close, I think you'll be ok. But do check HSC plus, pretty sure there were a couple of subjects for it.

    BIT or Comp Sci?

TBH you sound more like a BIT guy - did you enjoy the more technical stuff in SDD? Do you like maffs?

    UNSW Session 2 2011 results

Extremely crap...17 lower than last sem's WAM. Do you guys know how they calculate overall WAM? Do they average the term WAMs or average across all subjects? (e.g. if you did more or less than 24uoc) EDIT: Nvm

    Maths -Vs- Science

Without maths, much of this knowledge would have been very difficult to discover and investigate. Maths is pretty amazing. I'm terrible with words so I'll let someone else explain why... I think year 10 maths leaves a bad impression on many people because all they present to you is formulas...

    What's IPT like?

Seeing as you're looking to do comp sci or software engineering at uni, definitely pick IPT. While you won't learn much technically (so it won't be very useful for uni unless you plan to do IT), it would probably be easier/more enjoyable than SOR for you. Most of the content is related to the...

    BIT or Comp Sci?

Which parts of your HSC subjects do you like best? Have you done anything outside of school that you really enjoyed/didn't enjoy?

Does UAC only look at our external performence?

Yes they do look at your internal performance. Maybe there's some confusion because they take your raw HSC marks from BOS (not the aligned marks that you see on your HSC certificate)

    Scholarships for ASB

Pretty sure they have a few random ones (e.g. some economics one for $5000). Have a look on the scholarships website.

Is anyone else really burnt out?

Think about it this way - if you don't push through now, you might not get your dream atar which could lead to more wasted months of life transferring etc. Not long to go!

I have an internal mark of 99, but only expect 75-80 in my HSC, what will happen?

The only impact your internal will have on your HSC mark is your relative rank. I'm assuming with 99 you are first? If so, it's up to your performance in the HSC what you will get as your final mark.
