Who's going to TSFX in July?

I'm going to modern tomorrow as well. 7 hours of lectures...I'm so enthused. But I do hope it will be worthwhile and that the notes will be beneficial. I'm also going to english and I went to 4U maths earlier this week. I found the lecturer very good. Hopefully modern will live up to my now very...

What subjects do you want to do in yr 12?

Why does almost everyone on this thread seem to be disinclined towards chemistry? It's definitely the biggest bludge out of all my subjects. In response to your query regarding extension history; there is much more to it than just the major work (which mind you is internally marked unlike the...

How do you see certain UAI ranks as?

Not only that but that extra UAI point makes an enormous difference in terms of gaining acceptance into university courses especially in competitive subjects such as law and medicine where the UAI requirement is often >99 and thus a 99 would not gain you acceptance into the course while 100...

Why does my school appear only to be studying Module B?

English Extension is different to English Advanced. You only pick one Module to study for the entire year. You do a several texts (depends on the module though) but the module that you study is the same throughout the year. I for example am also doing Module B: Texts and Ways of Thinking...

what if you crash a HUGE test?

For your final HSC mark there are two components; your HSC mark (from the external exam which is 50%) and your internal assessment mark (also 50%). If you do really well in your external then you get a very good external mark simple as that. No one will take your good external mark away from...

The "I didn't go well in my half yearlies" Thread

Re: I screwed up my half yearlies At my school we carry it 'Carry Through Error'. Basically if you make a mistake (generally simple arithmetic) in the beginning but work the subsequent question(s) out correctly (using your initially incorrect value) then you will only lose one mark for the...

    Germany- Hitler

Technically (as said above) you could link his early years to the formation of his ideas, ideology, interest in politics etc. and considering his role in the Nazi party these ideas shaped the Nazi party stance, ideas etc and thus relate to the Nazi Rise to Power (as Hitler played a key role)...

    motivate me

I would never recommend pulling an all-nighter; even if you're unsure of the content of an exam. Information just doesn't get processed if you attempt to do so on an excessive lack of sleep and worst of all it can have detrimental consequences when actually doing the task. Our grade got this...

Would you be allowed to do 'Appeasement' as it is one of the possible History Extension Case Studies? You would also need to be careful in regards to how much Hitler/Holocaust would overlap with the Germany National Study and/or Conflict in Europe study if you decide to do it. Your teacher may...

What subjects should I pick for year 11 & 12?

If you put in 95 for physics you would also note that it would drop down to low 90s (or lower). SAM is not indicative of a clear depiction of the scaling of a subject; scaling reports are much more accurate and accessible. Generally; looking at HSC means in subjects and the scaled mean...

What subjects should I pick for year 11 & 12?

Actually Chemistry scales better than biology and physics and is generally the highest scaling science (though this does vary some years as scaling varies according to the performance of the cohort). If you don't believe me check the scaling reports. This being said though scaling should be...

    The HSC: An Environmental Hazard?

Considering how much paper I use for all my subjects I adopted a new system. All the paper that I used for old english essays, chemistry notes, history essays and the ilk I now use for printing off maths past papers and maths working out. Works wonderfully.

There is like 4 classes for one subject...

Would that have been essentially the whole grade? Wow; Biology was amazingly popular.

There is like 4 classes for one subject...

We have 5 Chem classes (not as many as 7 but still a few) but only one Biology class right now (we had two during Prelim but now there's only 1 HSC class). Chem is the most popular elective subject at my school (aside from maths (and all extensions) and english extension of course).

Humphrey Daveys role in the ideas about acids?

That German dude was Justus von Liebig a few years after Davy proved that HCl didn't contain oxygen; but I don't suppose the syllabus would ever mention him.

You don't have to do a person but generally it is much easier as there is SO much wrong with biographical history. The questions are somewhat restricting (along with the 'No doing stuff from the syllabus' thing) but you can work around it. In regards to the Taj Mahal maybe you can have a look at...

Important Chemistry Questions! Answer Them As Soon As You See Them!

I've often found that going beyond the syllabus allows for a better understanding of what the syllabus actually requires. Today's Chem syllabus is probably more content than skills and sometimes knowing something extra really allows you to master what you're going to be asked and allow yourself...

Important Chemistry Questions! Answer Them As Soon As You See Them!

I'm aware of that and I know there are facets of Chem that are much too complex for a Year 11/12 student but where possible, I believe that the actual explanation is better than a watered down version. I know that there are exceptions with this as there are with most generalisations and that...

Important Chemistry Questions! Answer Them As Soon As You See Them!

I know, but I've always believed that it's better that you know the real explanation instead of swallowing down something simplified as you're not expected to understand something of that complexity. Plus it stops people questioning your explanation if you give them the full outline. It's his...

Important Chemistry Questions! Answer Them As Soon As You See Them!

Balancing chemical equations ties in with the Law of conservation of matter i.e. Matter cannot be created or destroyed. This means that what you have on the left hand side of the arrow MUST be present on the right hand in accordance with this law. When balancing chemical equations first you...
