What was Daveys ideas in the development od ideas of acids?
im confused atm because different books are saying differnt things

concquering chem says that he propsed the acids were substances which contain a replacable hydrogen, yet chem in context says that someone else proposed this, and that humphrey only proposed that all acids contain hydrogen.

can anyone help clear this up for me

Yeah, you should use the Conquering Chem one. It's more, ah, 'widely established' and taught in classes. Markers can't deduct marks.
But you SHOULD be able to use either =P

I have my notes i can show you, i did it last lesson so i didn't actually listen/do much but i hope it helps :)

Sir Humphrey Davy
• Proposed that all acids contained hydrogen rather than oxygen
• He showed in 1810 that hydrochloric acid did not contains oxygen
• By 1830s several acids with no O were discovered including HF, HBr, HI, HCN and H2S

Whenever you see contradiction between textbooks, I suggest you look up more credible scientific sources or websites to clarify what is correct.

That German dude was Justus von Liebig a few years after Davy proved that HCl didn't contain oxygen; but I don't suppose the syllabus would ever mention him.
