    Information on Accommodation

? She's vegetarian. That was part of the reason she got in, also because there were no Common Room Committee members in Packard so it wasn't very represented. Also (chiefly) because the Dean of Bruce liked my sister (she's very biased towards female Bruce ressies).

    Parties/Drinking/Social/Nightlife

USyd colleges are more expensive is probably the main difference. So there are fewer rich kids at ANU colleges (though of course there are still plenty). The social life depends on the college, but on the whole, yes, the social life is pretty awesome at the colleges. Definitely more party...

    Information on Accommodation

First year undergrads aren't even considered for Packard. My sister got into Pack in 2nd semester of her 2nd year, which to my knowledge is the earliest anyone has been able to. You're usually not allowed to apply until your third year. I'm guessing Laurus is pretty similar.

    PhB/BSc at ANU question

I think they only interview people who're on the fringe. I don't know anyone who was interviewed actually...

    Any 2010 hopefuls?

Will you still be in Pack?

    Terry Tao public lecture

Yeah, ANU is more of a research university, hence the emphasis on the pure side. Even then it's strongest at analysis, whereas USyd is only really good for Algebra. Even then I'd still rather do algebra at ANU. Also, eww applied maths :p

    Application to ANU Law/Arts

    1) No, you don't need to make it known. As a science student, all you need to do is get a D (70%) average on your courses for your first three years. In your third year, you can apply to do honours the next year, and if your grades are good enough, you get in. Are you looking here, btw? ANU -...

    Terry Tao public lecture

From my experience, I'd say ANU has the best maths department (and I've checked out quite a few). Though clearly we're all a bit biased here... ;)

    Nmss 2010

Hey! I was teaching ANU secondary college maths earlier this year :) And I was tutoring 2nd yr uni students ODEs. I definitely preferred teaching fractals to teaching ODEs...

    Bachelor of Science - Majors

To go with chemistry, some of the mathematical modelling courses could be quite handy. Plus there's courses on environmental maths, mathematical biology, and so on. Statistics is much more helpful with areas like psychology, bits of biology, and business/economics areas.

    Bachelor of Science - Majors

I'm doing a maths (double) major. I guess it's pretty difficult for the most part, though that could be because I'm doing all of the hard courses. ANU has more of a focus on pure maths, but there are enough interesting subjects that are somewhat applied and not ridiculously difficult in order to...

Bachelor of Asian Studies (Specialist)/Bachelor of Commerce ANU

Maths may be pretty hard, but in some third year maths classes I'm sure the average mark would be an HD. Granted, that'd be because there'd only be 10 people in the class, all of whom are maths geniuses, but still... Moral of the story: difficulty of the subject can't really be measured by the...

    the new cricinfo is shit

I don't mind the new layout too much, but the fact that it's 100x slower now is pretty damn annoying...

Whats the ANU college life like?

Catered colleges (Bruce, Ursies, Johns, Burgmann) are around $250-300 a week. Fenner and B&G (self-catered) are around $160 a week, Unilodge (also self-catered) has a massive range, $150-250. Johns, Burgmann, Bruce all claim to have the largest rooms - in my experience, Bruce's are generally...

    ANU for sciences

PhB is what you make of it - if you choose your Advanced Studies Courses wisely then you can get a great head start on your future path in research. As far as physical sciences go, ANU is definitely at the top end of Australian universities, but I'm sure places like UoM, Monash, USyd, UNSW...

    PhB/BSc at ANU question

It just means you have to cram more Advanced Studies Courses into fewer semesters. Doesn't make that much of a difference.

    PhB/BSc at ANU question

I've known quite a few people to transfer into PhB Science from BSc(Adv). Like Neo said, you'll need to get an HD average in your first year, which will mean working your arse off - and you'll want to get more than just an 80 average, more likely around 85-90, which is a LOT of work. The people...

    ANU Roll Call/About You Survey

    1. PhB Science 2. Mathematics (of the pure variety) 3. 3rd 4. Around 10 or so including tutes, but I don't really go to most lectures... 5. Officially, Mondays off 6. Bruce (Packard wing = self-catered) 7. Awesome people & great college. Feeling pretty old these days though
