    English extension 1 thoughts?

Navigating the Global's essay was kind of strange. I didn't really agree as to how vulnerability created a borderless world, but I tried to adapt and answer the question as much as possible. The creative was a total kicker, our teachers told us to never set Nav Glob creatives in an airport as it...

How to excel in senior year studies (yr 11/12)-99+ ATAR graduate

Re: How to excel in senior year studies (yr 11/12) I don't make notes for maths or English...but for more content heavy subjects like Bio, Chem and Modern? I feel like I need a good grasp on the concepts in order to churn out a decent answer for long response questions. Just wish there was a...

    Post-holiday reflections

With prelims and Year 12 right around the corner, I thought we could use the last few days of the holidays to reflect and prepare for the upcoming term! (Oh joy.) What can you improve on in terms of: 1. Study routine 2. Subjects 3. Mentality 4. Non-study things? I’ll start: 1. More...

How to excel in senior year studies (yr 11/12)-99+ ATAR graduate

Re: How to excel in senior year studies (yr 11/12) Hey, I was just wondering if you had any tips on time management, studying smarter and reducing procrastination? :) I feel as if making syllabus dot point notes take up a significant portion of my time, leaving me with little-to-no time to...

What's the benefit of a selective school?

^ This. A school with a good academic reputation wants to maintain that reputation, and so they continually enforce the idea of achieving high marks to their students. However, I don't believe that the quality of teachers play a significant role in how well the cohort does. I go to a top 5...

    Work Experience

There are a couple of small law/accounting firms in the city that you could go to. My friend went to Slater & Gordon Lawyers for her work experience, although I've heard the application process is quite intensive.

    How to study this subject

Both. But when you are writing out notes, don't simply regurgitate - make sure you actually understand the concepts. And prioritise the things you need to memorise. Do lots of past papers to make sure your knowledge can be applied to a wide variety of questions. Something my cohort did before...

    Extension English narrative assignment

Be careful of setting the narrative from a child's point of view. It is very difficult to encapsulate their tone and mode of thinking without sounding a) contrived or b) too simplistic. The concept you have there is alright, but perhaps explore more nuanced Australian values instead of going for...

    2014 Reading Goals?

I absolutely loved Infinite Jest! The whole process of reading such a intricate, lexically dense book was like nothing I've ever experienced before (hasty consultations with the IJ Wiki were pretty frequent!). But wow, IJ is probably one of the most deeply affecting novels I've ever read --...

    What are you currently Reading?

I recently finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It was (in short) 800+ pages of brooding, nihilistic brilliance and now anything I read seems terrible because it never quite lives up to my expectations...

    Geography V.S IPT?

If you want to learn useful stuff, go for geography - I've heard that it differs largely from the Stage 5 course and that it's rather interesting. Coming from a current IPT student, IPT is pretty pointless and mundane. It's just rote learning, applying, having some great bullshitting skills and...
