    tangent qn help

y is actually equal to +/- 2/x. If you're going to do it that way, you need to mention that the given point is on the positive curve and not the negative.

HSC 2015 MX2 Integration Marathon (archive)

Re: MX2 2015 Integration Marathon It is zero for x = pi/4, which is 0.78. It is negative after that.

    Absolute Values MX1

That's a bit different to saying you'll never be asked this. No-one had ever seen a question combining Circular Motion and Conics until 2 years ago. As long as the piecewise definition of absolute value is in, this is definitely a possibility in an exam.

    HSC 2015 Maths Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2015 2U Marathon Actually it does. This can be written as a definite integral, and by drawing a diagram each log integral can be turned into the difference of a simple area and an area under an exponential function.

What are they getting at in part c? Surely time itself would be used as the parameter. Are they saying m is the time?

    Probability Help (Questions from Cambridge)

Its not really a matter of "having" to count them. But all the tools you learn for counting are simply time-savers, and when the numbers are so small no time is saved by using those methods. In this question, any attempt you made to be tricky with the counting would probably only add time...

    Probability Question

The link works. I've never been a fan of Ruse papers. I would hope that the smartest Ruse students would have challenged this interpretation of the question back in 2009. To me, this should be interpreted in the same way as having 8 5c pieces, 9 10c pieces, and 6 20c pieces, and asking "if we...
