    Dehydration/hydration of ethanol.

I think to fully understand why, u must first understand how each reaction occurs, ie LOOK AT THE MECHANISMS, but this is not required for the HSC Chemistry course, however they are interesting if u have a read of them - just google 'mechanism for acid catalysed hydration of ethene' etc

    Titration query...

you may leave the conical flask wet - and ill explain to u y by pipetting 25mL of HCL - that is a known amount - now let us assume there is water left in the concial flask - THIS WILL NOT CHANGE THE NUMBER OF MOLES of HCL IN THE CONICAL FLASK AND WILL NOT STUFF UP UR CALCULATIONS SO LONG AS U...

Please Help! Designing An Exmeriment To Test For Lead In Waterways

This rest of this post assumes u r talking about the Lead Ion (Pb2+): Well, for a Qualitative test (to see if Pb2+ is actually in the water), since u cnat use a flame test, u have to use PRECIPITATION REACTIONS, namely using thes fact that PbCl2 (lead chloride) and PbI2(Lead iodide) are...

    Physics Practical Task

reliablity when used in physics and chemistry at HSC level alwys means REPITITION - so u say "the experiment was reliable as we repeated 5 times and recieved values within 1% of each other", or "our expt was not very reliable as we did not repeat it - thus we could have increased reliability by...

Anode/Cathode, which one is positive and negative?

actually, staright from physics contexts 2 p.229 "the plate connected to the negative pole of the batter was called the cathode and the plate connected to the positive pole of the battery was called teh anode" so basically some stoopid guy named it in such a way that the electrons go from...

    answer this question

cheers that makes sense now - taking the 'mol' part of 'kj/mol' to mean amount of moles of a REACTANT - all clarified, 46kJ of energy released per mole of NH3 created i was a bit unsure, hence y i asked "this value (-92kJ/mol) as it is stated means for every mole of NH3 produced, 92kJ of...

    answer this question

Yes, i understand what u r sayin in the first half of ur post (hence y i was confused in the 1st place), but the second half doesnt make sense - it would say "-92kJ/applied over entire equation" if it is what u r sayin - it does not say that, instead it says "-92kJ/mol" this value...

    answer this question

are u not contradicting yourself? When u say "-92kJ/mol" that means 92 kJ of energy released PER MOL, yet u r saying for each mol of NH3, 46kJ is released i understand how u get that - 92/2 = 46, since 2 moles are produced, but if it states "delta h = -92kJ/mol" , that is saying for every...

    answer this question

I'm still confused about this - many textbooks say delta h = -92kj/mol, however others do: N2 + 3H2 <---> 2NH3 +92kJ so, yeh, could someone clarify this - is 46kJ released per mole of ammonia produced, or is it 92kJ? thx
