    Should we care about whaling?

Sure we have a lot of stuff the world needs, but most countries that need it don't have the coin to buy it, or if they do and don't buy it from us, they'll buy it dirt cheap from dirt poor countries. Japan doesn't have to shop from us. It's one of his election promises that I simultaneously...

    Should we care about whaling?

Nah, Japan's bogeyman is its own pride

    Should we care about whaling?

It's more about politics and economies than shooting, dude. We export a lot of stuff to Japan, including a shit load of fresh food, not to mention mineral resources. What happens if they did to us what the US did to Cuba?

    Should we care about whaling?

Well, as I read the situation, Japan recognises that we look after our Antarctic waters, but not that they count as our territory to be defended. Which is why they indicated that if we were to defend those waters with guns, they would regard it as an unprovoked act of war.

Worst car on the road today?

What? BS. The handbrake and the keys are hugely separated - at least on my Saab.

    Should we care about whaling?

Hole in your argument: whales are not fish

    Should we care about whaling?

    ...no one is really sure.

    Should we care about whaling?

For interest, the Japanese hunt currently includes: Antarctic: 850+ Antarctic minke (data deficient) 50 fin whales (endangered) 50 humpback whales (0 quota (least concern)) North Pacific: 340 Northern minke (least concern) 50 Bryde's (data deficient) 100 sei (endangered) 10 sperm whales...

    Should we care about whaling?

    The emails are much jucier

    Should we care about whaling?

Well. I think there's a difference, though I openly admit I have a bias in this situation. I don't think the way pigs are raised in Australia is unnecessarily cruel, nor how they are slaughtered (I agree with you re: battery chickens though. Disgraceful). It's really difficult to kill a...

    Should we care about whaling?

Lots of reasons, all of which you know and agree with (or at least you used to)

    Should we care about whaling?

Fortunately for the whales it's unlikely that Japan's current quota of whales will significantly dent the populations they're targeting enough to "extinct them".

    2010 New Year's Resolution Thread

I was a 19 year old virgin. Nothing wrong with it. Just lose it when you feel comfortable, dude

Strong and effective climate change policy, that doesn't involve a great, big new tax

Re: Strong and effective climate change policy, that doesn't involve a great, big new Only 63 billion?

    - get that job - be less of the shy retiring pathetic type - get first class honours - generally have a better year than 2009, which won't be hard to do

Worst car on the road today?

Not as of yet. Dude, the keys in the centre console are a GOOD thing. I can't understand why other manufacturers don't do this. They don't jingle and hit your leg!

Strong and effective climate change policy, that doesn't involve a great, big new tax

Re: Strong and effective climate change policy, that doesn't involve a great, big new Hey, I give Greenpeace money, or at least their anti-whaling operations. But they are by far the most prolific organisation - of any type, be it a political party or an NGO - that actively opposes nuclear...

Strong and effective climate change policy, that doesn't involve a great, big new tax

Re: Strong and effective climate change policy, that doesn't involve a great, big new Or, more, you can lay pretty much the entire blame between Greenpeace and the Greens Party.

    True Blood

Lol well there's your first problem - you're reading tie-in books. The True Blood series was actually BASED on the Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris, not the other way around, and they're very good.

    True Blood

Awesome show. The books are better though.
