Got 96 in 2U HSC. Give up for 4U?!

Personally, I'd do the 3U and 4U again. Because 4U helps with 3U alot (in my opinion). Anyways, this guy at my school a few years ago got 2nd in the state for 2U maths and cringed on the thought of losing it in lieu for 4U. He ended up getting 7th in the state for 4U -- Not too bad ;) -- Was...

Who thinks the HSC is unfair?

You should also note that people who are maths or science orientated also tend to suck at English, a compulsory subject.

    Math Ex2 aligning?

It also depends on the marking scheme. For example, for general solutions (I know, which wasn't examined this year, but just an analogy), if you don't write "where n is any integer" or something that qualifies the value of n, then you could lose a mark etc.

Wanted a tutor on the Central Coast

You wont find many tutors that are good at Maths and also are good at English. But of course there are the few one of a kinds.

    Study over holidays.

Harder 3U isn't that hard, IMO... Personally I think Conics is harder.

    complex stuff

Yes, you can use DeMovire's theorem to find square roots of equations, since DeMovire's theorem is true for all real values of n. Too much fiddling around in my opinion though.

    complex stuff

It's from the Terry Lee book. Don't use it, it's way too confusing and lots of room for error. Plus it's not like you get a whole list of questions on this. In a test you'll probs only get like 2 marks worth, so it's not worth stuffing up by using some stupid shortcut.

    Complex Numbers/Polynomials

Umm z^5=-4+4i \\ So \ |z|^5 = \sqrt{32} \\ So \ |z|=\sqrt{2} Isn't that right? :S Reason I'm asking is that it's from Coroneos... which is usually very correct. This would be the first error that I have picked up, that is, if it is actually an error, which is what I'm trying to confirm.

    Complex Numbers/Polynomials

Yeah thanks... I was looking over some examples and came across one. I think the book is wrong though. Here's the question, could someone please have a look? Solve z5=-4+4i Answer: Roots of z5=-4+4i are z=4 \sqrt2 cis \frac{k \pi}{20} where k=3, 11, 19, 27, and 35. I reckon it should be just...

    Complex Numbers/Polynomials

I must've missed it then... will have another look tomorrow. Yeah but some stuff are not in the course. Like for instance partial fractions with repeated factors.

Re: Ext 2 Past Papers + Answers Did you include Jan Hansen's 2009 HSC exam solutions?

    Complex Numbers/Polynomials

As I said, just because they put it in an assessment task, it doesn't necessarily mean it is in the course. And yes I did go through HSC past papers from 1990 and found one (1994 or 1995 IIRC). But it had a lead in part. So it probably is in the course. But funnily enough I don't think...

    Difference of two squares.

    Complex Numbers/Polynomials

Well, just because it appeared in a trial it doesn't necessarily mean that it's in the HSC course... I'll look through past HSC papers from 1990 and see if I find such questions. I know of course solving z^n = +/- 1 is certainly in the course though. Just not sure about z^n = a+ib.

    iiiiiiiiiiiii

    I honestly don't think this is in the course, although Cambridge goes through it. But anyhow, another method: 2z^4+3z^3+5z^2+3z+2=0 \\ z^2(2z^2+3z+5+\frac{3}{z}+\frac{2}{z^2})=0 \\ Now \ as \ (z+\frac{1}{z})^2 = z^2+ \frac{1}{z^2} + 2 \\ z^2(2((z+\frac{1}{z})^2 - 2)+ 3(z+\frac{1}{z}) + 2)=0 \\...

    Complex Numbers/Polynomials

Hi, I was wondering, are solving equations of the form zn=a+ib (where a,b are real and =/= 0) in the course? Thanks
  19. C

    Polynomial Roots~

    I think also a3 + b3 + c3 = (a+b+c)(a2 + b2 + c2 - (ab+bc+ca)) Correct me if I'm wrong though.

    Was that a Maths exam?

    You thought wrong.
