Does anybody have a list of or link to a list of 'shortcuts' for solving sum/product of roots-

e.g a^2 + B^2 = (a + B)^2 - 2aB, except for the more difficult kinds of questions?

That's really the only "shortcut" you need to know. The only other one I can think of is the extension of the example you quoted using three roots i.e.
a² + b² + c² = (a + b + c)² - 2(ab + bc + ac)

I think also a³ + b³ + c³ = (a+b+c)(a² + b² + c² - (ab+bc+ca))

arent shortcuts such as those used more so in the "inequalities" section rather than polynomials ... =S

I'd just sit down with a piece of paper, and just figure most of the harder ones out, then memorise.
