HSC 2015 MX2 Permutations & Combinations Marathon (archive)

Re: 2015 permutation X2 marathon Here's my attempt, it's double your answer but I can't figure out why

    HSC 2015 MX1 Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2015 3U Marathon Incase someone was looking for a solution to this. I'm not entirely sure about 2b though - I know that this question is from Terry Lee and I've looked up his solutions and compared them to mine, but I have a feeling he may be wrong? We need 1 more letter from the 4...

    Special Relativity question

I never actually remember which is which; imo it's better to just figure it out when you're actually solving a question. If you remember that (as c is approached) length contracts, 'a moving clock appears to run slow', and that mass increases, you should be fine

    HSC 2015 MX2 Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon Good question, but not one I know the answer to. What I would say, in this situation, is that i is a constant and doesn't affect rates of change (why should it?). Which is not a very good justification. Again, I don't really know

    Mechanics

Unless you misread your teacher's writing, she should have written: F_net horizontal = 0 --> T1sintheta - N = 0 (where N is the horizontal normal force of the rod AB on the ring [assuming that rod AB exists; you didn't specify it, but the fact that there's a ring involved strongly suggests it)...

    HSC Physics Marathon 2013-2015 Archive

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive Lets get this thread up and running again! You didn't specify how many marks, so I'll assume...say, 4 marks sounds about right. The development of transistors in the mid 1900s allowed for the replacement of thermionic devices (valves), which were the current...

    Your subject regrets

No subject regrets. Dropping music at the end of last year was the best decision I ever made.

    James Ruse trials

Yeah I'd tend to agree, in saying that, I have seen some really difficult JR questions (I posted a thread here not too long ago about one in particular), but typically others tend to be harder

Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon Just seems like an average 2U question unless I'm misreading something https://imgur.com/u8J8HIV

Thoughts on 2015 CSSA MX2 Trials?

Re: 4u trials CSSA Uh I'm (kinda) jealous of you guys who actually did a half-decent, interesting paper, the ones my school always do are super duper easy and the biggest waste of 3hrs. Literally, the last question in the exam today was a banked track question where you had to find the velocity...

    combinations with fruits

Well it depends upon whether the fruits are considered to be unique within their type (i.e. can you tell the difference between banana 1 and banana 2?)
  15. porcupinetree

    combinations with fruits

Each fruit is not unique within its own type. i.e., all the bananas are identical. Solution: we already have confirmed that we'll have 1 of each fruit. Hence we just need 2 more. There are 5 ways to do this total, if you count them up.

    Maths extension 2

Yeah you don't have to have done 2U to do 4U. In fact most people who do 4U haven't done 2U accelerated (I did, but I'm an outlier, at least @ my school haha) It's definitely an advantage though. If you're worried, maybe just try and learn some of the HSC 2U concepts ahead of time, it will...

    2015ers Chit-Chat Thread

Chin up, there's literally nothing you can do about your exam now that it's over, so try and use this as a learning experience for the actual HSC It's best to focus on your other trial exams rather than deliberate on what you could have done better yesterday/today, as I said, there's nothing...

The Reduction of Hydrogen in a Galvanic Cell

I've come across some questions about galvanic cells where one of the half cells involves a platinum electrode in an acid solution, with hydrogen gas bubbled over the top of it. I'm perfectly happy with this scenario if the hydrogen half cell is the oxidation cell: the hydrogen gas oxidises...
